I am now looking out my front window looking over the Pamunkey River where Eltham is on the other side. History is in my sight everyday.

Captain Tasitus-Thomas C. Clay and his brother Atreus Clay, were land surveyors and builders of my 140-year-old Victorian home in Washington County that served in Hood's Brigade and Terry's Rangers! The house is a B&B House Of Atreus in Independence, Texas. The first Baylor female college is located near my home, and many other historical buildings are also within a stone's throw away from my home in Independence, Texas. The Clay families are still here and are wonderful neighbors. Mrs. Ginger Grutzus Calton from Texas.

Last November we held our annual scholarly seminar in Brenham and toured the Independence area including visiting the Old Independence Cemetery. That area is so steeped in Texas history. Stay tuned for future episodes. We are following Taz Clay, Val Giles and George Branard through the entire war. I envy you your historic home. Thanks for watching.

Greetings fellow Texan, ma'am l've been to lndependence a few times in my life. Have seen where Mrs. Sam Houston is buried there. And been to where the columns still stand on ground of the original Baylor University was conceived. Also have been to Washington-on-the-Brazos and museum. Do you know where Stoneham is on TX.HWY 105? I ran across a Stoneham brother there in the cemetery, and his brother is in the Cartwright cemetery east of Montgomery. Both were members of the 8th.Texas Cavalry AKA Terry's Texas Rangers. I was a member of the SCV, but l let my membership lapse. It's cool that you own a Victorian home, does it carry a State medallion?

@@carywest9256 No, Sir/Ma'am, I only have the brass medallion that says House Of Atreus Est. 1883. I haven't been to the Cartwright Cemetery; however, I have burial plots in the Historic Independence Cemetery, where many heroes are buried. You sound like a fascinating person. I hope you will return and visit Independence and stop by the House Of Atreus with your family. Ginger native of Texas.

Thanks for watching. Companies A-D of the 2nd Texas Infantry were recruited from Harris County. Not part of the Texas Brigade, the 2nd Texas fought at Shiloh and defended the 2nd Texas Lunette at the Siege of Vicksburg. They were so decimated from the fighting at Vicksburg that they were furloughed back to Texas and stationed at Galveston.

@@hoodstexasbrigadeassociation I don’t have definitive proof of any relation. His family was splintered, so I doubt seriously that the bloodline has run this far.

Sam Houston is over rated. The second battle against Santa Ana the Texas troops attacked against his advice.

There was no second battle, if you're talking about what happened on April 20,1836. That was only a skirmish. The following day which will forever be known as San Jacinto Day was resounding victory which secured Texas lndependence. What you got to say now?
