Working and stressing about saving for college, been setting aside some money for a stock BL Legacy GT because zamn that EJ255 rumble and mid 2000's simplicity. Everyone tells me buying a 20yo car is a poor decision and it probably is but I totally understand that feeling of always wanting something and finally having the freedom to get it once you get older. You definitely helped me clear some doubts and gave a realistic picture of what it'll be like before I decide if it's worth it and I appreciate that

Just did the same thing as you lad and bought a 2008 WRX hatch that sat in a field for 2 years and was ran very few times in those 2 years and it’s got an oil leak, coolant leak and it smokes on start up all the time but eventually stops after a while ❤

When I was 20 I wanted Lancer Evo X. I was subsequently talked out of it after being told it would become a money pit and went with volvo v70 that I've driven for 8 years now. I still kinda want to fulfill my dream, but there are no car services around me that would handle something this hot and getting right parts is extremely expensive, so I guess I'm sticking with the Swede that, despite being boring, really came in handy over the years.

It's probably not as bad as buying a classic mercedes as a 19 year old. I'm 20 now, still have my mercedes and parts are way to expensive. I have been looking for a new air filter since I have the car but I can't find one so I'm still driving with that dusty ah airfilter soaked in old oil and coolant because the head gasket had a major problem. The gears for the odometer broke so I ordered new ones. I took that thing apart and found out that they sent me the wrong gears. It took me 2 hours to take it apart and about 3 to get it all back together without fixing anything. The worst 5 hours of my life. I love the car but I also hate everything about it. I'm financially ruined but luckily I have a mom that pays for my gas, which is also way too much for a 19 year old. I pay about 130€ a week for gas

Great stuff! Good idea to take council from a professional with your rust problems, bodywork is an intense craft. If fixed right and early, those little rust spots can be repaired very easily, preventing bigger and more costly damage in the future.
