@AChaChaMan if you can dry brush a white or lighter color over the dark primer to still get a zenithal effect, go dark. If not, go with white, either way, the Speed Paint will look good.

@davidbeer5015 I never got around to bring out those minis. I would want to keep the transparent parts, so most likely I'd mask them off with silly putty since it's easier than tape and then prime as normal. You can pull the putty off afterwards and paint away.

@evelynrose3334 it's called a Hobby Holder. It uses bottle tops and they attach to the part with the hand support.

I started with a zenithal from above and then painted the skin with Army Painter Speedpaint to get all of the shading.

It's an mdf kit which is basically thin wood that is cut by a laser. They're pretty sturdy except the doors which are very thin.

The most wanted set will get you a wider range of colors than what the starter offers. The starter set is a nice base, but you might need to mix to get what you're looking for.

Most are Kinsmart brand that I've gotten from Michael's or thrift stores

I haven't varnished any of them. Truth be told, I haven't played a game of X-Men United, I'm more of a painter than gamer. They go on the shelf.

I don't think I have any extra skill lol. I use the speedpaint right out of the bottle with very little issue. There are a few spots where pooling or staining on the larger flat surfaces is sort of noticeable (capes, some helmets or other big areas), but my goal with these is to get them to a table top standard. While they definitely aren't the nicest thing I have painted, I am happy to only spend an hour or so on a mini and have it good enough for a game.

I've never had the ink be an issue

You should be able to do either. My initial batch of MU minis was done with black primer though my airbrush because it was too cold to prime outside. I like doing the white zenithal through the airbrush because of the increased control it gives me opposed to the rattle can.

Unfortunately I do not. I gave one away a few years ago and have mine that I painted in my collection.

Awesome. I'm sure your stuff will come out great. Without an airbrush, I would say put a bright spot in the center of the light source and then drybrush around it. I'm sure there bunch of good videos on how to do it, but that would be my easy suggestion without getting into a ton of layering.

Thanks. I use a 1 inch piece of 3M double Sided foam tape. It holds very well.

Yup. Army Painter matte black from a rattle can and then Liquitex white ink from the airbrush. I think I have a short of me priming Gambit on KZbin.

They all got an Army Painter matte black prime from a rattle can and then a zenithal of Liquitex white ink from my airbrush. You really to shake the speedpaint like you hate it to mix it thoroughly.

I'm not sure if it has to do with the zenithal being an ink? That may make it shiner? They seem to dry fairly matte.
