You are very welcome, Maria! Adding fog to any painting gives it more interest - you can use opaque white to add fog to paintings you've already painting, also.

Thank you, Fiona! Most people think clouds are white but they are actually different shades of gray.

For the white you used at the end that is watercolor or acrylic or gouache? My watercolor is too light for that effect 😮
@DebWatsonАй бұрын
Student grade watercolor paints won't have as much pigment as the professional grade paints, and Qor brand has the most vivid colors that don't fade as they dry. Student grade paints often need several coats to equal the color saturation you see in the video. The white paint I use is Bleed Proof white by Dr. Martin but Pro White by Daler Rowney is just as good. Hope that helps.

Hello DEb. I can understand your feelings 'I feel a bit cheated that I didn't get any help in learning about art and watercolor until adulthood'. In our time knowledge was kept to themselves. Some people still do it today. It's a power play. I had a close friend that would take from me but never share in return. Also an accounting lady, And workplace people. This happened to my mother as well. I hope the people on here will reverse this behaviour. I really appreciate your sharing. The other lady that shares willingly is 'The Art Sherpa'. Google is great for unselfish people who share. So there must be many in life this has happened to. Times are changing. thank you so much.

Thank you so much for a watercolour still life tutorial. Sometimes it seems as though watercolour is only about landscapes-there isn’t too much out there for those of us with other interests.

You can do anything with watercolor from soft and light watery paintings to photo realistic paintings - it is a wonderful medium to use.

This is the first time I've heard about soaking our watercolor paper on both sides CORRECT information,the darker paint is to separate the horizon line ❤❤❤❤ an EXCELLENT representation Should the lightening be added when the other colours are dried out?
@DebWatsonАй бұрын
Yes, Barbie, the lightning should be added after the rest is dry or almost dry. A few students put it on with masking before they started, but painting it on top turned out to be easier and more effective.
@keatikinsАй бұрын
Thanks Deb. I have watercolour paints that are metallic, I am thinking of adding a little to the lighting on my painting I just did following this, I'm afraid of ruining it. What do you think?
@DebWatsonАй бұрын
Go for it! You could put some around the lightning or where it's hitting the ground, too - great idea! We've used metallic for hummingbirds, dragonfly wings - lots of different things.

I often see people using brushes like this for wetting their paper, what is it?? I have been using a wash brush and it doesn’t seem to do the trick
@DebWatsonАй бұрын
Stephanie, this is a 3/4 inch Silver Black Velvet oval wash brush. I like it because it is a soft wash brush that holds a lot of water plus it has a good point. I think they're worth the money as they don't wear out.

@DebWatsonАй бұрын
Hi Michelle, no not on just underpainting. I often start painting with a very light wash of the colors (an underpainting) just to see if I think the colors and composition will work but it seems to confuse students. I did it step by step with the door video and that's been my most popular so far.
