I received my first one from an aunt and uncle who lived in Anneheim. California for my seventh birthday. The #60 trolley was a great piece!

Say, will modern fingers work with prewar e units?
@mt.trainrestorations5931Ай бұрын
If it’s a mechanical e unit yes. Modern trains have electronic e unit.

Thanks for the video. Do you know of any reference material for these early Lionel units? Schematics and such.

It would have been nice to see you crimp or peen the rivet into place. I can't find a video on that. Thanks

Is it the same way to do a loinel loco no257 motor ? I just got to the stage with replacing the wires so i watched this one to get idea or have you ever done a no 257 motor i would interested to see
@mt.trainrestorations59318 ай бұрын
Yes the 257 is similar, most motor have the same wiring but a true 257 has no switch. Runs forward only…..

I have a motor from a lionel 248 boxcab almost identical to the one in the above video. The main diffference is the geering. Mine has two geers instead of one that hit the main drive geer from the armature. I cleaned it and have put the brush plate back together. The main drive geer sets too high to hit the other 2 geers. There was no plate over the geers to push it down that I noticed when taking it apart. Any suggestions?

I’d have to see a pic of what you mean ?

Get yourself an Ultrasonic cleaner and some Simple Green . Mix the Simple Green with water. Some times strait Simple Green or a 50/50 mixture of water and Simple Green. It’s amazing how much better it turns out clean. Don’t put painted parts in the Ultrasonic cleaner.

I came across this video series as I am beginning to restore a set of prewar cars that are very similar to these. I believe they are from the late 30s as they have the magnacouplers and the screw on the roof. I’m in my early 40s and this process is very new to me but I wanted to try something new. You mentioned your “parts guy” a few different times. Can you share who this is and maybe a contact or website I can locate? Thank you!
@mt.trainrestorations59319 ай бұрын
Try “tender.com” he has parts.

My dad bought a Chesapeke and Ohio 2024 in 1970 for Christmas. It was a terrible pulling loco. It had one driven axle with one traction tire. The unit you have has had the power truck replaced, as I think the single axle power was the correct motor. It had a two position e unit with a double wound field winding for directional control. It was the last unit Lionel Corp produced in 1969 before the MPC era, according to the experts. Tandem Associates.

Looks like this 248 is an early production model, seeing that this one only has one drive gear instead of two like on mine, as well as having spoked wheels, and tab/slot coupler support.
@mt.trainrestorations593110 ай бұрын
Yes between 1927 and 32, the 248's came with 4 different motor types, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Some with solid wheels and then Spoked wheels later on.
