Good job. I went through a similar process with a 3-head Teac V-1050 back in 2017. All of the resistors relevant to time constants were replaced with 1% metal film and capacitors with 5% Wima film (matched pairs per channel), and all polarised capacitors in the signal path were replaced with appropriate Nichicons. I also made a small piggyback board with a peaked highpass filter per channel to sit just after the playback head preamp stage to compensate for low frequency head losses and act as a subsonic filter. The end result was a frequency response of 17Hz to 21kHz within 1.2dB @-20dB with a cheap TDK FE Type I tape. To say I was pleased with the end result would be an understatement. drive.google.com/file/d/0B6DGwrXwCpAoOTFzWjUxSjBsVkk/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-wB6orzDh0umnF8kB4FIbEw

Hi, I follow your videos on this unit and I was able to make it work ,a tip for stocking arm for pinch roller, how I find it’s easy to remove. It’s to use a kitchen torch and heat the part for 2-3 second and then it’s coming easy out.( remove all plastic and rubber first)
@cobratosin9 күн бұрын
Hi. I see you don't solve properly fast wind and rewind. To change rubber idler is only a small part on the way to solve problem. I see another large video and have same problem. On each reel there is 2 springs. Between springs is a bushes. That bushes is cracked and moved out and comprime the thin spring and not press on the pulley of the reel. If you see, the reel who spin tape don't move inside because spring is full comprime. There is a clutch and if the big spring not press enough on the pulley the move from idler is not transmit to reel. I solve this on my DD-5 but was like a brain surgery.... Hope you understand me. Sorry for my poor english.

@@michaelwitt1733 well, two options - use external tools like T-100 software to measure the tape response and set the bias precisely OR use your ears, switch between the source and tape and adjust as close as possible. You even may make the recording sound with more highs if desired.

I am interested to know what are the decks that you decided to keep out of all the ones you heard and repaired so far? This is a very good deck by the way, I am surprised that you are letting it go.
@hifirulezzz17 күн бұрын
@TheMagicStar80 well, having multiple decks is like having multiple cars. Even if you enjoy them, you have to use them to keep them in good shape. I generally use 3-4 decks and sometimes pull out other decks to play around and bring some color to the gray day. That is why I decided to shuffle decks, sell some, get a few more to fix and see how they perform. My favorites are Nakamichi 6xx series, RX-505 and Sony KA7. I like decks when I see the tape. I still hope to complete the fix for a hum noise in my Revox. Pioneers are good. Akai decks are good either. But only the Sony is precise to the point of being digital sounding decks and Nakamichi is the best sonically even if they are not 100% precise. I love decks from the 1979-1984 era. They sound special, very natural and enjoyable.
@TheMagicStar8017 күн бұрын
@@hifirulezzz I think you got the right approach. I feel the same as you do about them. I dont use them often lately but would like to get back to them in the near future and listen to them and also record with them. My favs are similar with yours such as 680ZX quality and extreme sound for both playback and recording, RX505 nonstop playing and also amazing output sound but dont use it for recording purposes. Sony have also some other models that I enjoy for their amazing output sound (Japanese version and European version) and also recording capabilities but also love some of the Akai GX series 3 heads but also Gx-R99. I still cannot say goodbye to the reel to reel deck my Akai GX636 model as l enjoy it too). The Japanese (Akai) A&D 91000 EV is one of the most amazing deck for recording in my opinion. Thanks for your opinion! I value your information you provide on these vintage decks and let's listen to music how it was meant to be listened to on analog tapes! All the best!

Hello hifi, from the usa. Thank you for this excellent video! I have the same Tandberg 3012 IA and cannot solve a low level 60hz hum which does NOT change in volume but disappears into the noise floor or music as you turn the volume pot up. At low listening level you can still hear it, which is saddening. (TEL 591 00830) The amp sounds and functions fine otherwise. I changed a few smaller caps (C603 & C604 - both 470uf @ 100V ) near the xformer but it made the problem WORSE. (Replaced with brown Nichicon - same value). After watching your struggles I see the monster cans are hidden under a metal shield. Mine are Elna. 40mm x 90mm 15000uf at 63V, 85C. Q: Should I order the Kermit or the Rubicon? Kemit is closer in size (my intuitive choice) or the Rubicon (better temp rating). Viewed optimistically, my life expectancy is another 11 years so either will outperform me at this point. Both are listed as available as of mid Nov, 2024 at Digikey on the us site. I am am an amateur guitar amp builder and music hobbyist with a general knowledge of electronic components but no training as a tech. I have repaired my Hafler 220 and have kept my Tandberg 3008A alive for the past 40 years against impossible odds. (We can’t get the right transistors- have to find the “equivalent” and then swap the legs but of course this often doesn’t work depending of the circuit they are in. Never got the Headphone circuit to work again after stealing the transistors out of the circuit to power one of the preamp channels,.. long story). Any idea where to start with my hum issue? Thanks again and keep up the good work! P.s. I know little of the world. Digikey have shipping centers all over the globe? So from Sweden you order from Digikey.de and they ship from Germany? (I assume they are all made in Asia somewhere).
