We've been there quite a few times, the last was August of 2015. We brought our daughter and three of our grandsons, all about 11-12 years old. We had always enjoyed our previous visits there and thought our grandsons would have fun.Naturally we headed straight to the fossils and had a good time, talk g lots of pictures. The was a park ranger tbere. He was an older man. One of my grandsons asked him a question about the fossils, but the ranger refused to speak to him. We left and went to Berlin. We found a picnic table and sat down to eat our lunch suddenly the ranger appeared , got out of his truck, walked within 20 feet of us and just stood there staring at us. My husband asked if there was a problem. The ranger never changed expression. He said "No". We finished our meal and left him standing there. While exploring Berlin we could see him in the distance, watching us. My husband swore he heard banjos so we left. I have to say that this happened nine years ago. I can't imagine what there was about us that caused the ranger to follow us around, but I think its wise for visitors to be aware of their surroundings and the people you encounter. Other than the odd experience, I highly recommend Berlin and Icthyosaur Park. Bring plenty of food and water. The closest town is Gabbs.

This was awesome! My grandfather and dad worked for the Superior Coal Co. My dad went to high-school there and played football for the Superior Dragons. He quit school at 16 and went to work in the mine, where his dad was already working. That would have been around 1951. Thanks for the video! Brought back nice memories!

I visited Belmont NV in April 2024. The courthouse is an impressive structure. We visited in the morning, so the saloon wasn’t open yet. The town is still sparsely populated, so we didn’t venture much off of the main road, out of fear of mistakenly going down someone’s driveway. The town center was nice too with lots of historic vehicles and artifacts on display.

It's Pronounced Plass'er'ville by the locals. Thanks for the video, haven't been there for a decade or so and I'm stuck living in town these days, am supposed to be doing Honey Do's , but am wishing I was out in the woods, this gives me a taste to maybe make it through the rest of the week doing the 7-5 grind in construction.

Similar situation in Sims ND on the old Northern Pacific main line. The difference is- when coaling facilities were no longer needed, the section of track through the town was completely abandoned for a more direct route east to west. As far as I know, there is still an active church in the area, but all other homes, businesses, the school & everything else is in ruins.

What is wrong with people? Woke up one day and said to themselves,” hey, let’s go spend 30 bucks on paint, buy some gas for the sh@t box we drive and go spray paint someones property “ out in the middle of nowhere…for what.

I went to Marble with a friend in 1981 and we didn't expect to find the quarry on the top of a mountain. We hiked to the quarry and it was an amazing sight; the whole top of the mountain is made of marble, the stream cut through marble and it looked like a polished bathtub. If you go looking for the quarry, look up, WAY up!

Well your info is very inaccurate unfortunately. I worked for the Colorado Historical Society. The story about the man/violinist was mostly wrong. The man was the brother of the superintendent of the mine. The mine was NOT above Silver Plume. It was located up the canyon at what is now Saint Mary's Glacier turnoff on I70 (nothing left of that town now. It was on the south side of Clear Creek. Being up the canyon yes his music flowed down to the town. He committed suicide from depression.
@davidmallory294529 күн бұрын
YOUR information is wrong. The Griffith monument IS hi above Silver Plume. I have been there and read the inscription. HAVE YOU ?? St Mary's Glacier is DOWN the canyon from Silver Plume, west of Idaho Springs. I have also been there. HAVE YOU ? Both places are on the NORTH side of Clear Creek.
@redpill547128 күн бұрын
,@@davidmallory2945 sorry you can't read. I said it was west of Idaho springs. The river does not flow where it was originally. It was diverted for i70. Yes I was around when that happened were YOU? I've climbed all over Colorado 14teeners. Have YOU?. So rude just because I corrected your historical account that was wrong. The town is NO longer there as I already told you. The name of the mine was the 5 o'clock because that's when they blew the whistle for the men to come to work. When the brother arrived he complained that was to early. So his brother had the name changed to the 6 o'clock mine. So your story doesn't match up with the correct mine nor town. Sorry.

Blanding was already settled by Native American tribes before the white folks showed up. On the west side of town is the old natives place called West Water.
