Can you use a normal shoulder rest with the Yamaha EV as you can with the SV?

Cardioid rather than narrow? We found SM57 way too sensitive to position. A Cardioid was much better. We used a Rode. What about electret vs condenser vs dynamic vs ribbon?

I have been learning to play violin/fiddle a little over a year. Would learning the mandolin help me to improve my violin/fiddle techniques?

theyre shaped like that for the resonance PLUS the cut out (called bouts) make it easier/possible to bow notes, this goes for all western bowed instruments

Bass cabs start rolling off around 50 Hz typically, so it wouldn't change a whole lot.

@@ecab992A low A 28.5 hz is about as low of a note that sounds musical, and still sounds a bit flatulent..An 8 string bass is theF# three half steps below that A. I say nope to that note. Nope

Your best bet is a PA system with a sub.

Of course I rushed into buying an electric violin - not on impulse, but not after careful consideration, either - and THEN I found this guy who's a goldmine of information. Oh, well. Bought a used Yamaha YEV104. Looking forward to its arrival. Hope it's good - I may have made a different choice had I come here first.

I was thinking, "I like the thump" right when you said it. It adds an accent and an earthiness.

This is really helpful. I wish more sound engineers gave the time and attention that you advise, especially when there's a singer. So many of them compete with the accompanist, and the instrument wins. This is especially risky with violin, since it's so similar to voice.

Im using both MultiFX and analog pedals, there are some sounds that I dont get from my MFX so I have to use an analog pedal. For eg the Pitch shifter on my MFX complicates the output of my sound, so I use an analog Drop pedal without compromising the tone of my output. Great video though. Explained very well for those who are confused which one to buy.

Don't put the mic too close to the violin or it will pick up bow and finger noise. At least 3m away
