Hi Lauren. I got a fern that was lovely and lush, but now it is crispy. I am going ro do what you suggest, but not sure what caused it. Humidity isn't our problem, I live in a temperate/ sub tropical area. Yesterday the humidity was so great my tiles on my floor were wet. I have my fern in my bathroom, but there is not much light. In there. When I saw it going brown I started watering it more, so maybe rot is now a problem, but not sure what started it. What do you suggest I grow in a dim bathroom, if ferns need more light? Ciao Nadia

When you removed the roots from the pole in order to add the bag, did you cut them off or just disconnect them from the pole?
@thatawkwardplantgirl
@thatawkwardplantgirl 2 ай бұрын
Just disconnect them from the pole. I never cut roots unless the root will be so damaged it will rot anyway and put the plant at risk. The plant would just spend energy regrowing roots and take much longer to recover and growth would be very slow.

Eatonville has one and I believe there are a few in tacoma and Seattle. Puyallup had one as well but I'm not sure if they are still open. Silverdale had one in the mall for a while years ago to. Search for thrift stores/consignment stores in your area and you can call and ask if they have live plants 😊 and if they don't it might be a good place for you to get rid of your extra cuttings and get a little money to 😊👍

Maybe adding a pinch of soap to the rubbing alcohol will help lower the surface tension and ensure the smaller bugs are more easily taken care of in fewer treatments

Great tips! Mine would do well for the first 6 months and then take a nose dive... my guess is the slow release fertiziler that the plants came with was done and I wasn't replenishing nutrients.

Very helpful video! Do you have any tips for Money Trees? (Mine is very floppy)
@thatawkwardplantgirl
@thatawkwardplantgirl 5 ай бұрын
Oof tree are difficult indoors. The older the tree the more light it needs and the easier it is to care for because it handles being neglected better. Younger trees it seems to be a lighting and watering issue generally. To little water they wilt and to much water they rot and wilt because of it. Without seeing it I would suggest as much light as possible unless it burns. And to check the roots for rot. If the soil is compacted and dry it might just need a good soak overnight to rehydrate.
@thatawkwardplantgirl
@thatawkwardplantgirl 5 ай бұрын
If it's a baby one(2 or 3 in pot size) and the roots seem good and the watering is good you can try a higher humidity(can put in a small clear plastic box for a quick mini greenhouse effect) and give it light.

Do you just mix it in like you would perlite? Is there a certain brand you prefer?
@thatawkwardplantgirl
@thatawkwardplantgirl 5 ай бұрын
@jenmontzingo yes that is exactly how I use it and no brand in particular. If it's for a terrarium with particularly picky or valuable plants I prefer to use Josh's frogs because they sell mainly to people with animals in their tanks and I know their quality control has to be on point for creature safety. That being said I have used espoma, harris, and mosser lee for my standard potting mixes and never had any issues.

Ugh the mealies🤢 it has been a long time since I had them. I don't miss them at all and am going to knock on all the wood in my plant room that they stay away😂🙈 the to high of a humidity was a surprise for me to because I always though humidity was the best thing we could be doing but apparently even with humidity there is such a thing as to much of a good thing😂
