That was great, I think you covered all the standard scenarios well there. I managed to get it all done fairy quickly but I do like map cases most.

That was a great little training exercise! The South Africa caught me out at the end as I took textafter the last space without thinking. Also naming the ranges and then using them to complete a 2D lookup is genius. I have never seen that trick before but figured out doing it when going through the file!

I love this idea Harry, thanks for sharing! Full disclosure, I did not get full marks 😂 I skipped entering a level code, then put a later one in twice when I noticed the gap. Which just goes to show that exam technique can be as important as knowing your functions!

14:22 Thank you for this case and this solution I have a question please At the fifth level We used it full time On the other hand, we subtracted the balance cumulatively Please clarify this matter Why did we subtract the quantities from red to green? Then from red and green to blue Apologize for the translation
@harryseiders1336 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. The reason I subtracted out red's total is because red went first. so Red takes from the original inventory and then green can take what is left over after Red went. Blue goes last so it can only take what is left after both Red and Green. does that make sense? here are the instructions from the case for level 5 There are 3 teams competing in the game. All the three teams are given a chance to shop. They will all have the same amount of time for their shopping trips, but they move at different speeds and choose different aisles. The sequence of shopping is as follows: Red team goes first, followed by the Green team after Red is done, and finally, the Blue team after Green is done. During their shopping, each team is limited to taking no more than 5 items of the same product name. The units of a particular item taken by a team become unavailable to the other teams. One of the highest-priced products is Mixed Bouquet in Aisle #3. There are only 13 of these Mixed Bouquets available in the store. In Example5 the Red team will take 5 of these, then Green team will take another 5 and finally the Blue team will take the remaining 3 of these Mixed Bouquets. Calculate the maximum possible retail value for the given team, assuming that all teams aim to maximize their total scores. Some teams may still have some time remaining when they finish shopping.

8:49 I realized when I watched Bo’s video that I hadn’t allowed for different sized aisles on this question. I only got it out because of luck (and maybe your generosity as a question setter - it certainly seemed like you were trying to avoid ‘gotcha’s).
@harryseiders1336 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I try to avoid gotchas as much as possible. My biggest hurdle in these competition is reading comprehension so I try to keep it relatively simple with as few rules as possible while still be challenging. A great example of this was your othello case. Easy to understand the question but still a challenge because it is a novel use of excel. I have created several lambda functions in case another case like that comes up again.
@DimEarly Жыл бұрын
Nice work! 25:19 I thought the answer here was actually 26, because that one can get a bigger boost (+33) on turning speed. There’s some room for interpretation, of course.
@harryseiders1336 Жыл бұрын
I see your point. The way I originally read it was what was the greatest possible increase, which I thought would mean ignoring the speed limit, so I would have answered 77. Once I saw that 30 was the "correct" answer I didn't consider the turning speed.
@DimEarly Жыл бұрын
@@harryseiders1336 They gave me credit for 26 when I explained the rationale, so I can’t complain. Between missing the speed limit, misinterpreting the power-up, and missing the rounding, there were a lot of places that people stumbled on this case! But it’s so hard to take the time to read everything carefully when you know that might mean you run out of time… exam technique is a big factor.

Glad I wasn't the only one to use INDIRECT on Level 1. While I've been learning to love MAP, I thought typing out the full LAMBDA contents would've taken too long and just drag-copied to save time. 😂
@vikhattangady Жыл бұрын
I solved everything including level 4 using just INDIRECT and OFFSET. Ran out of time after L4, but I expanded the same logic with a few more helper columns and solved L5 too with INDIRECT and OFFSET
@harryseiders1336 Жыл бұрын
@@vikhattangady I thought the indirect offset would cause a REF# Error for level 5 by moving off the screen, and would further complicate goal scoring analysis when trying to work around the error.
@harryseiders1336 Жыл бұрын
I used the Map mostly for practice on level 1. Copy and paste is probably quicker but sometimes I stumble when trying to get the paste range and i like getting all the answers at once.
@vikhattangady Жыл бұрын
@@harryseiders1336 it did. I had to use some extra columns. 1 set for rows/columns of the starting cell, 1 set for the offsets, 1 set for the direct calculation, then checking if goal/out of bounds, then 1 final set to feed into the indirect formula
@sledgehammer-productions Жыл бұрын
I like the fact that you use an elaborate helper section and then go through all the games (I'm away from Excel, don't know how the function is called, but do know where to find it on the ribbon). Replacing the audience with they're ticket prices was a briljant move!
