Great video , a lot of nicely demonstrated techniques. For beginners watching important to remember that some of these assume you are wearing armour (like those where enemy is cutting downward and you thrust at him - this may not stop him instantly- you may still get cut without armour! ).

The so called "ninja-to" never exist or be used by the shinobi no mono, was created in 1900 or in the last 1800 only like as a fun or pop item; the shinobi no mono if need used a sword, carry a regular katana or a wakizashi or tanto...
@edgyboy8318 ай бұрын
whilst it is true they would usually carry a katana or wakizashi. The modern idea of a "ninjato" isn't very historically viable, eg the straight short sword with square tsuba. But if you look back at history samurai swords were VERY customised depending on era, intended use, wielder etc. For example, the kodachi is an example of a sword similar in proportions to a shinobigatana or ninjato, now the idea that all ninja used this isnt accurate, but its plausible that using a regular length tsuka with a shorter blade has many benefits such as a faster draw, better for close quarters and use indoors. Many samurai historically would request their swords to be based on their personal height, their sword style/ style of the swordsmith, and whether or not the sword was intended for the battlefield, personal defence and such. In summary swords like this existing are 100% plausible because we have existing swords like this, but you are correct that the modern hollywood concepts about the "ninjato" arent historically accurate.

I want to learn spear fighting, but I can’t find anywhere near me that teaches Sojutsu/Yari, if I learn Bojutsu do the skills easily translate directly to Sojutsu? There is a place that teaches Bojutsu near me and also Naginata, also an online Bojutsu course with gradings by Global Martial Arts University. I was interested in learning the sword, but for home invasion defense or self defense it is almost purely a killing tool which I would want to avoid, while the Bo is more defensive and can keep an intruder with a knife or machete away while incapacitating them but avoid killing them, but the spear is the best balance of both, you can strike with blunt force like the Bo, and stab with the blunt end if you only need less than lethal force, but the sharp tip can be used if necessary. Also long sticks, broom handles etc are more easily available and are not considered a deadly force weapon but can easily have a sharp point put on them

@@J3unG Spear was literally a battlefield staple, even used in conjunction with early fire arms in the form of pike and shot formations, you're pretty shit lol.
@bameronrunner5502 Жыл бұрын
@@J3unG It was the primary weapon of the samurai lmao. They were mounted archers in the early years and then evolved into more like knights that fought with yari both from horseback and dismounted. Spears beat most melee weapons in a 1v1 if the skill level is equal. The katana is heavily romanticized in pop culture and is the weapon most associated with samurai but it was really a secondary sidearm to either a ranged weapon or a spear most of the time. Swords would only be better indoors where spears would be restricted by the walls and/or ceiling.
@haraffael78213 ай бұрын
@@J3unG thats why they wear Tanto/Wakizashi/Katana of any sort as a secondary. But spears are really strong
@pieman314121 күн бұрын
@@J3unG "Once you close"... let's not take this for granted, eh? They probably trained to prevent that. Pikes were cumbersome, and you could easily get to your opponent once you dodged the point, but they were very popular up until the bayonet was invented (and the bayonet was just a shortened pike). You still have to dodge the point, along with all the other points, and avoid getting shot at and cut at. Not impossible, but not easy.
