FYI: Actress Estelle Getty from the Golden girls purchased the 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis. The show had become a success. At the time she was driving a very small Toyota. When she made it big with the Golden girls she bought a new car.

I loved the video, the part about going to the stores was very well done and funny, but suddenly a dark question came to my mind... How old were you in the 80s? O.O

Ford/Lincoln/Mercury on the Panther platform and the Chrysler M-body platform of the same era were the best in the business for unmatched comfort and bullet-proof reliability. Thanks for sharing.

Love this video! I wish I was so mechanically inclined! So the vinyl fabric was used on the cloth seats? Can that be used on vinyl seats? Keep up the uploads!

Oh yeah, those LTDs were everywhere in the 80s. Even more common--it seemed to me, though I don't know this for sure--were the LTDs of the 70s. Seemed like every 3rd car was one, and you saw a lot of them pretty deep into the 90s.

My first car was an '81 Grand Marquis that I bought from my grandpa. He bought an '86 to replace it. I really liked the fuel injection in his '86. It had a lot more pep than my '81

Beautiful cars.....a miss what these computer-on-wheels do not have now. You knew what car it was, back in the days, miles before it came to you. Beauty and it to be the beast......but, they had better prestige, and uniqness.

I gulped whenever I see these after losing a race in 2000 to my cousin driving his grandma/ my great aunties black Marquis 5.0. I was in my dad's E30 and yea I learned there's no replacement for displacement for sure. My first cars were 4.5 4.9 DeVilles after that!!!

Pretty cool video: However (and this may depend on several factors, including the severity of the knock/s) I beg to differ on the rod knock issue sir. I replaced both the connecting rod bearings and the main bearings in my 99 Cavalier, without rebuilding the entire engine, (again depending on various circumstances and variables refering to the individual situation) or removing it from the vehicle) by dropping the oil pan, swapping out the bearings, retorquing the cap bolts, installing a new oil pan gasket and buttoning it up; now the engine runs and sounds like new...
