As a complete beginner, but one who is taking it reasonably seriously, I'm playing strive and sf6, and I find strive much easier to do cool stuff in. It feels significantly less restrictive and more intuitive than sf6. Cancels feel easier, inputs feel more lenient, and, obviously, movement is much more free. I also appreciate how unique and distinct from each other the cast is.

You highlight an important part of fighting games that I think gets lost in a lot of online discussion. I got into fighting games under the impression that its got people that take it seriously, people that are completely dedicated and aiming to be the best. But you make it look so fun. The mindset I had at first really messed with my mental, and honestly hurt my ego as someone who already had very low self esteem. Watching your videos makes me wanna try them again from a place of joy and whimsy that's lost in a lot of spaces.
@sefflikejeff19175 күн бұрын
A big reason for that is that many fighting game content creators are also sponsored players who make a career out of competing. That's a super sick part of the FGC, and that's why people watch their stuff, but numbers wise, they probably make up less than 1% of the community. I'm not throwing shade at pro players or their content, but it can give people a skewed perspective on how most people engage with the genre. It's the main reason I made the channel, I wanted to show people that someone who is average at these games can still have a great time with them and slowly improve their skills along the way. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy fighting games more this time around! Remember, you only get to be a beginner at something once, so enjoy it while you can 👍

When I filmed this there were only around 5 people in each floor (US West servers). The lower the floor, the less populated it will be, but if you go into training mode Matchmaking for like 4 minutes you'll usually always get an opponent. It's gonna feel really overwhelming at first, but try to always play against people who are a bit better at the game than you are. This will make you progress like crazy. If you do end up having issues finding matches, there's always the GGST discord or the SeffLikeJeff Discord, tons of Strive players in both. Good luck! You only get to be a noob once, so enjoy it!

Honestly, the servers are in a much better place now. At least, that's what it felt like to me. If I had gotten "communicating with server" looped at any point during filming, I would've kept it in. Didn't get one desync this time around either!

Strive was the first fighting game I started taking somewhat serious! I started with Nagoriyuki, but his constant need for input shifts between his 214, 236 and 623 specials hurts my thumb 😂😢 so now I got my bad B Baiken. Currently floor 10, looking to make Celestial floor by February. Guilty Gear is an amazing ride and I’m here for it and the rest of the series.

im really glad to see this- so many people just feed into recursive loops on why new game is bad, and everything that it changes only makes it worse- when i've been playing Strive since launch, and im still having a blast with it. I sure as shit wish the game had actual match-making and a better training room after having been spoiled so thoroughly by Street Fighter 6, but i listen to some people complain and i swear the only thing they actually *play* is yapping online.

The "Tekken difference" is such a funny expression, but it does feel true. The Tekken strings kinda force you to actually look at your opponent's model, animations and think of where they are in the string at all times. Love Strive, though. Coming back to Strive on Dizzy's launch has been great, even through the bugs and balance shake-ups they're still ironing out.

What’s up man, I like the video! One thing I think is interesting is that whole “getting better when returning” phenomena is actually really common for competitive games. I myself have experienced it with this game, and others, like when I still played apex (definitely don’t anymore 😭), I took a long break and then had my highest damage game ever on the week of returning. It might be partially a matchmaking thing, but I mainly think that taking a break helps to remove some of the bad habits you had when you left. Sry for the small paragraph, lol. I just thought this was an interesting thing that you pointed out

Just booted up GGST the other night for the first time in months and its got all my attention again. I had been a casual fighting game fan beforehand but this game fully cemented me in the FGC. Its resources give you so much freedom to experiment, the characters are awesome and the music is peak. I know the community has its problems with current Strive but honestly I haven't had any complaints with recent changes (mainly because my top picks have almost exclusively benefited from said changes)
@shmooters559917 күн бұрын
Strive was my first fighting game as well, and admittedly it didn’t click at first. The community, art, and music were great, but something wasn’t meshing for me. Upon the release of ABA however, it finally hit. That was the most fun I’ve had playing any game till that point, and finally finding a character that just fits perfectly really cemented how so many can love this genre so much. So many older concepts finally made sense, I didn’t care if I lost, if I dropped combos or entire floors, or got burnout and had to take a break from the game. All because I knew when I did choose to play, regardless of how it goes, I will be having the time of my life piloting this insane chick with a big key.

Your first 24h video is what got me into strive. And joining the discord to have people destroy me while teaching me the game made me fall in love with it. Especially a certain Seff spamming Chip DP's at my face until I learned to block in my first 2h.

fgc when the new game isn't the same as the old game: 😡. I honestly think strive's simplifications and general forgiving design helps get down to the mind games that I just enjoy when playing fighting games. My only complaint is that damage feels a bit too high. That, and maybe it would be nice if we got some skill based matchmaking modes. The floor system is fine but I find even lower skill players end up playing on higher levels because lower levels aren't as populated, leading to some very different skill levels between matches. But at the same time, I'm probably too busy admiring the animation to care about these shortcomings.
