Got an epiphone 84 explorer and some ebony wood stain, just wondering what to do about the lacquered bit on the side of the fretboard cause it’s really light and I don’t think the stains gonna get to it

Nice demo. Image how this guitar would sound on a tube amp.

Music Nomad. Yeah, I thought I recognized that neck rest. Anyway, man after my own heart: the low side of the neck should feel like silk. The upper side -- unless the frets end in razor sharp points, I don't care: other than the rare case where I wind up muting with my thumb, my hands are never going to be there. (you might have dressed the upper side too off camera, but I"m going to pretend you didn't.)

Great Job. Thats makes the Guitar looking Right. The Factory relic Looks so cheap.

20k for that guitar is a bit absurd, especially when there are builders who are making far better replicas with braz board, period correct hardware and real pafs for quite a bit less and those mods you did wouldn’t even have been necessary. If you’re a purist seeking something close to the original bursts, it can be had for less than 20k. R9s are just not as great in comparison and you have to mod them quite a bit to even get them in the same ballpark.

Before mods this is one of the best Les Pauls I've played. And I've played a lot of real 'Bursts and this one is a monster!
@soulsacrifice88523 күн бұрын
@ ok if you say so. I’ve handled quite a few LP’s myself and I’ve never come across any modern made Gibsons that come close to the ones made in the ‘golden era’. In fact I still own a good example r9 with a braz board but had to mod it quite a bit to get it closer in the ballpark of a real 59 standard. Once I got into higher end replicas, they were better in every sense and much closer to the original ones. I’d personally never pay 20k for any r9 unless they were made of 8lbs of pure solid gold.

It intonates close enough and I was going for more vintage accurate look and vibe. Specials didn't have lightning bars

I recently bought a Harley Benton DC Junior and I was pleasantly surprised at the fret end finish and rolled fretboard. I wouldn't have complained if there Had been some catchy fret ends But NO they are as smooth as could be. £166 amazing value.

I have to warm up to not trip all over myself while playing. Once in a blue moon, I'll pick one up, the planets align, and it's like drawing Excalibur from the stone.

Sounds really good. I'm not used to hearing one gained up. They're usually clean in demos. I think I like it better than the Tone King plugin.

My 65' Fender is a different amp when you turn it up. Our frontman played through it on 10 with my Gibson that has Super D's in it and his mouth was agape with surprise. He then proceeded to channel Johnny Thunders.

Are 2Rocks, foundationally, Fender BF style amps?
@willdenham10 күн бұрын
A little less gain, otherwise everything else is right on. Deguello has some nice cuts. It's the new tone that Billy discovered and implemented so well on El loco. His BF Fender stereo/chorus/flange setup.

My course change is that it doesn't make sense to buy another Les Paul right now, so I'm building one from a cut and routed body and neck. Going to finish, paint and add separately purchased pickups and hardware myself.

Did this just become a $1000 dollar Epiphone? I just bought this guitar and I'm all about the mods but at this point I Think I'd just get the Gibson version used.

Similar story. I had been looking for a Les Paul for years, hanging out at stores trying out the American standards, but they didn't have that sound. Found it in some reissues, but the timing was never right. Finally came across a CC Sandy going for sale, and I jumped on it. It sounded between vintage and modern, and I swapped everything physically possible, including drilling out wood for the posts. It looked more authentic and sounded closer to vintage than modern after all the work. Mod your stuff the way you want it, please. The whole value thing is just messing with people. I think Joe B put it best when he said the barometer should be: If the guitar would become worthless one day, would you still buy it?
@sonicmilk12 күн бұрын
I thought you hit it out of the park. Very inspirational. Also, hopefully this will give new guitarists an affordable entry point to great tone, and help give guitar techs more work. Everyone wins!

I’m at that 19 minute mark and I haven’t read any of these other comments, but in my opinion, the band that is bringing back rock ‘n’ roll and doing it with ripping guitars is Turnstile. Now I’m with you guys. I’m 44 years old so I don’t know everything that’s out there but that’s just my opinion.

should have done a 10-- there are already too many 808 and 9 clones
@MythosPedals11 күн бұрын
Having all of them in my collection the sonic differences between a TS-9 and TS-10 are negligible at best. I think the 808 is the best of the bunch but the Envy is an improvement to all of them

It looks fake. Better than before but still fake. It needs more GUNK. The relic patterns Fender did are bad.
@MythosPedals14 күн бұрын
I've seen and played A LOT of vintage guitars and very rarely are they that gunky and gross. People play them but often times don't neglect them. And yes this guitar very much looks like a pattern because that's the only way to produce a relic like this en masse. That said I enjoy the guitar immensely and don't have any concerns about playing the ever loving shit out of it.

I can only laugh, how forums says, that Gibson is not selling anything and is not relevant anymore and should target younger players and what not. Yet Lez Paul Standards are safely in top 10 sellers 👍
