Interesting convo, guys! Thanks for being vulnerable; I enjoy it and feel like it adds to the personality of your company. As for my 2 cents, I would love to see a new analog EQ pedal on the market. Doesn't need to be fancy, but an alternative to the Boss pedal, maybe with adjustable bands, but definitely made well with no noise that doesn't need to be modded after the fact would be awesome. Beyond that, I believe you might be overthinking things a bit if you want to sell pedals. People want something that looks good, has some bona fides (which you have), then performs. I'd hire a visual designer before I hired a circuit designer. At the end of the day, the farther you go down the niche pedal route, the more expensive your pedals get while you're selling less. Let your drive pedals be your signature, then have fun with everything else! Get them on upcoming band's boards and you'll be seen. I'm always rooting for you guys!

Love this episode, complete transparency just an openness that's refreshing. I have many thoughts so apologies for the word vomit. I don't think of drives as spices. Guitar & amp is your stove & cook wear, mod/delay/verb is your spices, drive is the ingredients. Some people want to try every cut of meat, every species of potato; other's stick to chicken & russets (I'm in the latter). Mythos as a brand I feel has 2 fan types: Mjolnir people & Golden Fleece people (again I'm the latter). So you're drive and/or fuzz. Like I can't imagine a Mythos Multi-effect (even though the Susmaryoseph exists). Dabbling into specific "spices" is great but Mythos is meat & potatoes imo. Off that thought the Positron. Zach's right its....not great brand synergy. My perspective, the Positron Collider isn't a Mythos Pedal, it's a Zach Broyles pedal. It's a pedal Zach makes for a bit of fun that appeals (aesthetically) to his inner child. But Mythos is the adult, if that makes sense. So trying to make a Mythos pedal derived from the Positron Collider doesn't quite work. Nothing about Positron says Myth/Mythos, nothing about Positron says Big Muff imo. If a relaunch happened say with a Soviet Muff circuit Mythos Baba Yaga, dope, Ram's Head Muff Mythos Ammon, dope. Even a standard style Muff Mythos Bast, or Fat Bast for funsies, again dope. And might've sold better 🤷‍♀🤷‍♂. I like less common drives personally (currently using a Colourdriver & Echoplex style drives) so I'm always looking forward to the day Zach makes weirder shit. However I know every Mythos thing sounds good. So even if it's not weird, not for me, I'm listening & paying attention. You make a Rat I'm listening, hell you make a Tube Screamer I'm still going to listen whilst rolling my eyes because dear god we need another tube screamer like we need a hole in the head; but I digress. Mythos became what it is by Zach following his muse not by committee (even though I'm sure he's asked for people's thoughts). Everything made with passion is noticeable & welcome & respected. So ignore everything I've said & do what you want. It's worked so far.

You guys are just the coolest. You can’t be more open about what you’re doing than you are Zach. I don’t own a Mythos yet, I’ve played a Fates however, and that was the best, most lush chorus I’ve ever played. I’m a teacher, so I have to wait a while, but if your overdrives are tuned as well as the BBD chorus, I imagine they are super. Congrats on the Herc man! You rock!❤

I compared the positron to multiple other Muff style circuits and the Positron was on top. Just more note definition and flexibility. Add in the Supa TB switch and you get two in one. I think there might have been not enough education of what it does. Even the guitar store rep at the store had no idea what it was until I played it.

Great episode! I think Flanger is the next logical step because of its relation to delay and chorus. I would also love to see a Wah with internal adjustments or at least minimal knobs sticking out the side. I recently built the Lightcycle Phasor II kit from Stewmac, and it was so satisfying see how that pedal works. I really think that style of Phaser is lacking in the market and could have a lot of opportunity for tweaking. The majority of my drive section is Mythos and I don't see that changing any time soon, so keep up the good work!

To summarize all points starting off I'd say it's gotta be the vibe that fits your tribe. Your not the same as Jamie because he's the guy that has a house full of weird gear and medical equipment that's been retconned into guitar amps and all manner of other strange junk. And that's the guy he is. But what you have in common is that your pedals have baseline utility that means you can toss it in line. And it's part of the chain without having to finesse the rest of the chain/sound to fit it. It's just in line and you're off to the races; good sound, there it is. And you guys are really selling yourselves short on the non-gain pedals, because they're fantastic! And they're fantastic because their tone is cohesive and well tuned. A lot of pedals that are more feature heavy are kind of isolated because you get caught up in all the stuff it can do but in the context of your chain as a whole the percentage of what bit is useful is far narrower. Fine if you have experience and time, but for gigging guys who need good tone fast without time to whack through the weeds and novices who are tossing darts in the dark that's counterproductive. And so your stuff works great because it eliminates any accessibility issues for players at any point in the spectrum. Personally I think you could strike while the iron's hot and do a Harmonic trem. I think you could do great things with it, and they're big right now. But you made an ODR1 before they were big, same with the Bluesbreaker (bit closer to the trend but still at the start) and those ended up becoming huge trends. So trust yourself, because you clearly know what's good 💯. The Positron was unfortunate, but it's aesthetic was a bit of a miss. It lacked the solidifying logos and such for obvious legal reasons to cement the Ghostbusters connection and so the remaining elements were too much of an intuitive leap. And unlike the Collider it doesn't look cool enough itself to weather somebody not understanding the reference. Honestly I think it would do great with a rehouse. If the base tonality of your pedals is the road to the tonal goal then the features you've included are beauteous scenery along the journey and not long detours. When there's time you might find something special on a detour, but that's a romanticized ideal and you may just find a broken down truck stop, or possibly a McDonald's. And then you'll have lost time and gained nothing to arrive at the same destination. Mythos is the shortest scenic route en route to Tonetown. (And it's delightful to see you pop up in the TPS group). EQD is like a roadside attraction where it's funky but also along the way, like "Worlds biggest ball of yarn" or Niagara Falls if you're driving to Canada.

Lots of good stuff in this video. Made me take another look at the Positron. I originally missed the fact that is has a bass control knob and has more mids than a traditional Ram’s Head. It's almost funny, been watching you guys for a bit, especially with your association with Joey. I snagged a High Road directly from a Bros Landreth show a couple weeks back and it's so great. Honestly the Positron never caught my eye, but I listened to this and your (objectively) sad reminisce about it and couldn't even come up with the sound. I checked out your demo of it and saw the discount and into the cart it went. These are my first two Mythos pedals, keep up the good work. Next I'll save up for a Herculean. Still waiting for your 1666 pedal 😉

I play bass. I love the Mythos pedals I saw various guitarists use that I’ve played with. Great drive sounds! As a bassist I like some drive too. After trying gazillions of (bass) drivepedals for years and years I did find lots that I love, but none I really can use live for what I do. I need the clean sound to be also there. Not just with a blend knob or a level knob that doesn’t go beyond unity gain. No, I need to be able to boost the clean sound (somewhat) too. And, because I like just a tiny bit of subtle drive on blues or even jazz tunes too, I’d love any old school kind of drive circuit that can do that and the heavier stuff both. Not a drive sound like the modern stuff from Scandinavia... I’m too old for that and I tend to really dislike those sounds! 😄 I know many Bassplayers that are looking for the exact same pedal I am looking for: Clean level (boost/ cut) Drive level Gain Tone Use any drive circuit you like! Help us out, please. That, and better availability on Europes mainland please. 🖖 Drive

As a player overdrive pedals actually inspire me most. Yes delay/reverb/mod also inspire me but once I find a delay/verb/mod I really enjoy I don’t deviate from it, arguably because there are just much fewer styles of the aforementioned genres. Dirt pedals on the other hand are nearly endless, and what sounds good with one amp or guitar may sound entirely different through another so there’s the struggle of owning different amps and building a combo of dirt pedals that work with it. 😊

I’d like to see a Chupacabra with a Treble and Bass control or maybe a boost or separate channel much like the Walrus 385 mk2. I own a Mythos Chupacabra v1 and love that thing. Having a little bit more tweak-ability would force me to buy the newest version. I also own a Lark. I would be pumped if a v2 was made without the tremolo but add a tone/treble/bass control. I wouldn’t be mad about a Mythos doing every fuzz variant!

Put succinctly, the elusive tone we all search for comes from drives, ODs, & boosts, resulting in a switching out those pedals. If desired, we've delay, chorus, flange, phase, or reverberate THAT tone, with little need to change a pedal unless it doesn't do a particular trick (e.g., shimmer).

The positron - I was pumped for it…. Because I wanted the positron collider - it wasn’t that… it was cartoonish. I was most excited about the positron collider aesthetic more than the sound. I also didn’t know it was a big muff, I don’t have a big muff style fuzz… I could buy the positron because I want to support Mythos, but I don’t like the look of the positron. Put one of the boards in a standard Mjolnir box, paint it purple… and I’ll buy it.

In my gigging cover band, overdrive is almost always on - either light or heavy. As the only guitar in the band, I always struggle with transit from cleanish to heavy OD without the switch pop and volume blast... I need a fast, smooth and seamless drive pedal. Think Creep by Radiohead and the dynamics required by a single guitar.

I would love to see some more fuzzy stuff from you guys. Accessible stuff like the Golden Fleece (although I have the High Road version which maybe bias's me a little bit as I'm a Joey fan) - that allows you to access the very core of what a type of fuzz is. Maybe the Positron is that but didn't land right (I also had a BM previously and didn't like it) - I guess you have to find a way to do it without treading on the 'Legends of Fuzz' territory of JHS. You guys are clever enough to do that though, even if I'm not!

I know you can achieve something similar by setting a drive pedal below unity gain, but I would love to have a pedal that simulates rolling off the volume on my guitar. I love the drive sound I get out of my amp and use the volume knob to clean up. Would be nice to be able to keep my guitar volume up and just use a pedal to switch back and forth. You can call it "Hygieia" after the goddess of cleanliness. 😊

FWIW I associate you guys with usable analog effects. Not much of a drive guy so I am heavily weighing buying a Fates or Oracle like, all the time. So maybe look at what JRAD did with their Mr. Moto, which is their Boing algorithm paired with an analog Tremolo circuit. If you’re going to invest in developing a plate algorithm, maybe explore what analog modulation circuits could complement it for a possible two in one effect. If the Mr. Moto had better branding, I think we’d see it on more boards, and that’s a point where you guys really excel. I realize that would entail possibly investing in the development of another effect, so maybe not the best idea, but it sprung to mind.

Drives are not necessarily my favourite type of pedal (to me they all start sounding similar after awhile). But when I think of Mythos I ALWAYS think of drive pedals. And none of your drive circuits blend together with the others for me, they all have a unique voice that I can quite literally "picture" when I'm thinking about what drive pedal I need to buy/use. Imo, this is an extremely smart business model. Don't try to compete on all fronts! Simply be the best at what you do so that when someone wants to buy a drive pedal they inevitably think Mythos.

I think being too cute about the topology of a pedal serves no purpose. If you're going to make a Tube Screamer style pedal, explain clearly why yours is different or better. To me, it's helpful when you can relate a pedal to a specific player's sound (BFG, Doyle Bramhall, Joey Landreth.)

I’m not interested in another version of something that already exists. Here’s an idea. Fire about a sub octave fuzz with a parallel path for mix? Basically, something that allows you to dial in as much of the starved Hephaestus sub octave sound as you want while allowing you to play at full gain on the guitar, but then have a mix control to allow it to be as much or as little of that wool, and-or sub octave as you like!

I do think the problem with the Positron was marketing. Unless you're a person that follows Mythos, you will never know the starting point of the sound (is it a distortion pedal?). If you're just browsing in a store, you will probably try something that has a point of reference for the sound rather that say "What's that thing?". Don't give up on it, I think it will eventually catch on. Sometimes things just take their own time penetrating the collective mind of the market. Also, for me at least, all fuzz pedals should have a battery.

@zach i dont think your wrong but maybe incomplete. i think the muff mrkt is different. Having something as artistically amazing as the collider, there is 'diet' element to the packaging of positron, that said, so many companies are doing their cool versions of muffs, that as a consumer, if i ultimately decide that i am not shelling out for a collider or another companies flagship muff, im already diet-utility mode, and immediately my brain says i can get 3 used versions of different ehx muffs and be golden, that or the jhs multi muff thing. I think the pedal shouldnt be related by name or art to the collider, if that necesitates different paripheral set of features in your mind, go nuts but, if it were me, i disassociate the two packaging wise. Love what you guys do, sorry, im opinionated today apparently lol Keep it up! #littlehercforever jk ;)
