My dad, a navigator, flew one of these from RCAF Croft and was shot down June 16/17 1944 and was the only survivor. Was behind enemy lines for three months until he was able to return to England.

My great uncle was a rear gunner. sgt Robert Baptist Halifax 3 LW546. They left snaith 51 squadron to bomb the railway network at Hazebrouck northern France. Returning from there mission the 62 bombers were hit by heavy flak fire. Out of the 62 bombers my uncles was the only one shot down. There last transmission was asking for a route back across the channel. That was leaving Amiens. There was reported crew from other plains said they seen a downed aircraft in the channel with red flares however this was dismissed and all aboard were labelled missing presumed dead.

I quite enjoyed the video, had a couple of visits prior to the official opening and do intend to make return trips to see further exhibits as the new material is displayed etc. I could recommend a visit to the museum and its very professional and congrats are due to all the volunteers for the gigantic amount of time and effort to get where it is today: a fine tribute to all those that served here in both the RAF and the PAF. A Lancaster bomber had an expected service life of 40 flying hours in 1942. The crew of seven, (not five, as stated in this), had a one in three chance of surviving a "Tour" of 30 missions. This cardboard Lancaster nose is amazing. I wonder 4:23 4:23 4:23 why build this in cardboard? I guess it replicates the cramped and freezing cold flight deck. All the details and instruments. Are amazing in their accuracy. Art? Hmm... Anyway, I think it's wizard, old chap.

Glad I found this, what a lovely tribute to the Sheffield Pals of WW1. I left Sheffield when I was 18 but I'm proud of my roots and although I left 40 odd years ago in my heart Sheffield will always be home to me. In the mid 80s I read the excellent novel 'Covenant With Death' by John Harris which tells a very slightly fictionalized story of the Sheffield Pals, since then I've always been hungry for information about the Sheffield Pals Battalion. Anyone interested should read 'Sheffield City Battalion' by Ralph Gibson and Paul Oldfield, its packed with information and photographs, its well worth reading.

Christine Bojen Such a wonderful, dignified & poignant Ceremony remembering the tragic event of the B17 Mi Amigo 80 years ago. It looked very well organized & massively attended. The human stories from the families were emotive & very moving. I thought the stained glass plaque donated to the city of Sheffield was a wonderful gesture from the Krieghauser family. Excellent video Gregos 💐

Revelation, 22:15 - Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. Revelation, 18:4 - I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, that you have no participation in her sins, and that you don't receive of her plagues, 5 - for her sins have reached to the sky, and God has remembered her iniquities. Revelation, 18:8 - Therefore in one day her plagues will come: death, mourning, and famine; and she will be utterly burned with fire; for the Lord God who has judged her is strong. Proverbs, 28:4 - Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; but those who keep the law contend with them. 5 - Evil men don't understand justice; but those who seek Yahweh understand it fully. 9 - He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination. Only just seen this. Nice vid well done. Always wanted to get aboard when I visited YAM but never done it. My research into an Uncle who was lost in 1944 aboard a Hali lll took me there. And he flew his last op of 17 from Pocklington just down the road! I think it is shameful none of these aircraft were preserved after the war. So many crews flew on these and loved them. From memory 1673 were built. This one was reconstructed by honourable volunteers and apprentices from the aircraft industry. It is truly amazing. Elvington used to hold an awesome airshow weekend, and I was fortunate to be there when they wheeled out thier Hali to stand next to two Lancasters who had flown in. Many people shed a tear that day. In memory of Wireless Op/AG Sgt Robert Leyland. KIA 25/7/1944. 102 Squadron RAF Pocklington. Aged 20. x

The Bristol Hercules engines were a drawing board requirement for the Halifax but, at that time, all Bristol Hercules were intended for the Short Stirling and so Halifax's had to make do with the reduced power Rolls Royce Merlin's. Also later Halifax's were fitted with 2 x 0.5 calibre machine guns in the rear turret which replaced the 4 x 0.303 machine guns......
