Yeah, there is this weird psychological need to PERFECT the first draft, but the strange thing is that the ONLY way to perfect the first draft is to complete it IMPERFECTLY, let it rest, then start a second draft, IMPROVE that, and repeat that draft by draft. But many of us spin our wheels in draft 1 because we want that to be perfect, partly because it's daunting to think about multiple drafts when 1 draft was such an undertaking. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with your series! Are you outlining all your books together, or taking them one by one?

I have to remind myself all the time that all a first draft has to do is exist! it’s a hard concept to grasp but I think it gets easier as you write more books and more drafts because you can see progress in revisions and start to realize you can revise anything into a good book! thank you for the well wishes! I am taking my books one at a time, but I’m a panster so I have a hard time outlining, unfortunately. my goal is that through tandem writing I can write at minimum the first draft of the first few books while I continue revising the first book so I can have an idea of what will happen in future books!

@@nahlanoelle8825 yay! I’m glad it was helpful! I totally would but I’m actually current still working on my sequel and kind of running in circles trying to figure out my own process 😅 I definitely plan to make a video about it once I figure it all out!

I finished my first draft last month and feel like I'm finally ready to start figuring out the second. I really appreciate you providing the google doc templates! It looks like a good way to organize things. I've already had a mishap or two with brainstorming something and then forgetting where I wrote it all down (lost it and had to rewrite it, but I maybe like this second version better than what I remember of the first?), so I definitely need to work on how I'm organizing my notes. I wish you happy writing on your journey! :D

It took me 8 years to finish the first draft, and I felt incredibly accomplished. Depression and life circumstances really impeded me, but I’m glad I got it done. How are you able to write so quickly with life getting in the way?

you should feel accomplished!! not many people finish a draft and the fact that you stuck to it for 8 years even when circumstances were challenging you is a huge feat. I’ve also faced a lot of personal issues while getting through my drafts but writing has always been my biggest outlet for coping with those issues. so whenever I have something going on with my personal life that I want to avoid, I turn to writing to “turn my brain off” and escape reality. also everyone’s schedule looks different so I try not to compare my progress to anyone else’s even though I know that can be difficult!!

@@riyadpatelwrites that’s really cool you’re able to do that. Usually when I’m in that state, I turn to video games and movies, but I really want to instead use writing to fill that function. It’d definitely take getting used to, but I’m sure it’s attainable. Thank you for the input and for the advice in your video.
