I just adore MikeyMojo! The combo of the two of you reviewing the concert with such passion and positivity is awesome! It made me grab my phone and go look for tickets in the nearest city. Alas, I won't be attending in Dallas (too far for me) but I will live vicariously through the two of you and others who are putting up footage. I hope you both get to go again and I wish you could meet up in L.A. to do so. Wouldn't that be amazing??? I have been watching the NJ show on YT and Mikey is so dead on with his rundown. Thank you both for coming at this from all angles and really giving an honest and uplifting review. Kudos to Sammy, Mikey, Jason and the one and only Satch! Long Live King Edward! ❤🖤🤍🎸👑

Sammy Hagar is the weakest link, his vocals are weak. Mikey & Joe Satriani are doing a great Job......its not Eddie, but it's done lovingly & respectfully. Jason is great but it lacks the swing ......needs a more triplet feel. Its great for the fans but I won't pay to see it

Regarding discussion of Fitz at 42:59, I saw him play keys for Sammy opening for Boston in '79 with an extended solo opening "Young Girl Blues", just as it was on the live '78 "All Night Long" LP; so presumably he played keys with Sammy from about '76-'79 (credited on '76 "(Red)" LP but not '79 "Street Machine").

Sidebar, the Montrose band went with Sammy when Ronnie broke up the band..Bill "The Electric" Church, bass, Denny Carmassi, drums. He picked up Gary Pihl, guitar who went to Boston when he joined Van Halen. Denny went to Heart when they got signed to Capitol.

I'm betting that the guy Dave was talking to who he said looked like a Cocaine dealer was Pete Angelus who at that time was his business partner as The Fabulous Picasso Brothers. He was considered, by the band, the fifth member of Van Halen before leaving the camp with Roth. He directed the Jump video and did a lot of creative things. He became persona non grata with the brothers. Roth ended up turning on him when his own career started and continued on a downturn. He was actually holding the Ampex board mixes in two boxes when I talked to Roth backstage in 1979, Logan, Utah. When he walked by, Roth said did you get it? He showed the two Ampex boxes that were underneath the lapel of his sport jacket. Roth smiled and said Alright!! Angelus seemed to be kind of like a slick rock business type not knowing who he was. I thought he was with the label since he had the tapes.

When I saw Allan Holdsworth in 1984 at BYU, front row center, he played that dark red charvel with the black pickguard. Chad Wackerman on drums, Jimmy Johnson on Bass. I got to meet him, he signed my ticket Cheers! and his signature. I think Road Games came out around then.
@Guitars-Watches3 күн бұрын
I believe that the dark red Charvel, was on the cover of Guitar Player back in the day. I also met Allan in Cleveland in 1984 at a small music club. No one else around us for 20 minutes just shooting the shit about Eddie Van Halen, current guitarist and his hope about securing a record contract. A terrific memory with an idol!

How much do those early 80's Charveles go for. I can't event find one on ebay or anything. What model is a good representation of that era.
@These_go_to_eleven_19596 күн бұрын
Depends? If It's a 100% original and in good shape You could get maybe $10k-$15k to the Right collector. Last one that I seen that was certified Sold for 9k a few Year's back. A Good reassue like the Nitro relic series or the Legacy(I own one of these) goes for $5k

A guitar I played with in the 80’s still has his two original Charvel’s that he bought at the old shop in Glendora and he never sold them. He later went into finance and made millions but to this day, they are his prized possessions and he will never sell them. Can’t imagine what they’re worth now.

Great interview! I just wanted to chime in and say how fortunate I was to meet Tad aka Kurt James in 7th grade at South Pasadena Jr High. He was already miles ahead of us on the electric guitar. I was at Tad's house every day in middle school and I can't express how dedicated he was to improving has playing. I am consistently referred to in this interview as "My Buddy". When Van Halen showed up at my beach on 4th of July the first thing I did was call Tad. We both spent the whole day with Eddie and Alex. Tad, Eddie and I sat together and Eddie played Spanish Fly and Tad had the nerve to play for Eddie and killed it!. Dave "Hawk" Lopez did go on a beer run with Alex. The Van Halen's could not have been nicer to us. They invited us into their hotel room that was full of beautiful women and made sure we always had a beer. A teenage fantasy came to life. I was also at Padrini's Music store the day we both met Nick Panicci. Nick took us under his wing and showed us the ropes of the Rock and Roll lifestyle. I also called Tad when I was a student at GIT when Allan Holdsworth gave his first seminar. Eddie played with through a Roland cube and sounded fantastic. And it was NOT my Peavey amp that Tad used at one of the many parties I would invite Tad to come and play with us in Laguna. It was my buddy's amp. Tad made it sound great. When we were kids I often wondered why he included me and he said "you make the band sound better". That bit of wisdom defined my roll in music. I knew if I could make the band sound better I would always play with better musicians. Tad has always been a secret weapon of mine. I grew up in his shadow and always there to support him. But the Mojo that rubbed off on me always made me stand out in all the other music projects I have worked on. We are still great friends to this day. A few weeks ago we played a beach party on 4th of July. Tad stole the show!
