Older instruments (I like vintage gear) have their level vials affixed by screws to the telescope. I have found that using these two screws as a sight line, I can use that to find my target well enough to see it in the scope. So even if you don't have a sight, you can still improvise a means of doing so. of course, they also have four leveling screws so were a bit harder to true up...

My boss had us watch this video for a lesson to the new guys. On the first reading I looked at my boss and said I saw that. He looked at me like I was rediculous. I thought he purposely blew the 1st reading for a later lesson. Never happened. This demonstration blew the math and ended with good math. I was called a know it all. Its surveying, I dont know it all, but I can see a bad demonstration

.It is notable that in various instructional materials on level setup, the 360-degree circle is frequently overlooked without any explicit mention of its significance. The absence of acknowledgment regarding this crucial element may create a misconception that it holds no relevance. However, it is imperative to recognize that the 360-degree circle plays a pivotal role in the functioning of the instrument. Understanding its purpose is fundamental for achieving accurate and precise measurements, and it is advisable to incorporate comprehensive explanations of this component in instructional content to ensure a thorough understanding among users.

If you plot a plane that’s perfectly perpendicular to plumb on the shore of a 10 mile wide lake. How much will the center of the water deviate from the objectively level plane?
@miked7703
@miked7703 6 ай бұрын
The center of the water will not deviate from the objectively level plane. This is because a plumb line, used to determine verticality, is perpendicular to the surface of the water. Therefore, a plane that is perfectly perpendicular to plumb will also be parallel to the surface of the water in the lake.
