Always thought full proof meant the proof that the whiskey ENTERED the barrel at. In other words, it is watered back down to entry proof before being bottled, whereas barrel proof means no water is added at any point. Never heard of adding water during the aging process. Always thought any water addition/proofing adjustments happened after aging. I don't know any of these things. I don't make whiskey. I just always understood it thus.

Interesting video. As the consumer I want to know was this proofed down before bottling. Seems terms other than barrel proof leave that possibility open. Full proof I think tends to mean entry proof more often than not. If the proof at bottling has a decimal it’s usually without water

I have both these bottles, and I savor them. They are not sold in my area. I got the 7 year in Knoxville, and I got the Barrel Proof in New Jersey. The 7yr is crushable, definitely a everyday sipper if it were more available to me. To each his own but it sounds like you got barrel proof backwards. Higher heat and age usually brings more complexity. Low proof complex whiskey is more rare. I love wheat whiskey and wheated Bourbon. Cheers
@whiskeynightcaps69563 ай бұрын
@@jonathansantana6239 yes, I've said before in other videos that barrel proofs usually have more flavor because they are undiluted. I made a comparison of adding water to a cup of coffee to illustrate the point. However, sometimes the proof is so high it doesn't allow for an enjoyable experience or make it easy for you to notice all of the nuances. A little bit of water opens it up. In comparing whiskies I just try to give my honest opinion. I thank you for even making it long enough through the video to reply to anything I've said. Please continue to watch and comment. I appreciate it. Happy Friday!

We have yet to review any of the Bernheim whiskeys...we do find that wheated whiskeys do tend to be a little spicy, so suspect the barrel proof on that might off the charts tasty. Think wheat and rye are similar to what they do in a barrel...adding that clove, spice kick.

I am a Makers Mark fan of the cask strength as well as the 46,hell I even like the regular MM, but I bought a bottle of the 101 a few days ago and its incredible, I went back the next day and bought another bottle, just a heads up that Makers mark 101 is now being sold with the traditional paper label not the etched bottle and (at least the ones I have) comes with a cork not a screw top! I actually took a half bottle of the 46 and topped it off with the 101 basically giving me a bottle of 46 @ 97.5 proof. great review and 🥃Cheers!
