I just picked up my first wheat whiskey recently as an attempt to broaden out my own experiences. It is a Laws out of Colorado and its 50/50 malted and unmalted wheat. However, it is also a single barrel pick. So I am having a hard time picking out what the 100% wheat flavors truly are verses what makes this single barrel unique. I might have to track down an Old Elk (highest wheat %) to get a better idea of what I should be expecting out of this type of grain. Thanks for another timely video Jason!

It's a rich whiskey. You know a whiskey I'm hunting that I missed out on: Koval Oat Whiskey. Oat whiskey is something you don't see everyday, so I'm very curious.

@@whiskeynightcaps6956 as soon as you said 'missing out' and 'oats' my mind went immediately to New Riff Winter Whiskey. Look that up if you haven't heard of it. Seasonal release and I have not got one yet. Maybe next year! Good luck finding a Koval to scratch that itch!

I can totally relate to the need for tasting different whiskeys. Part of the excitement of drinking whiskeys and bourbons is transcending the palate by not limiting yourself to one expression. Coincidentally, WR double Oaked was my gateway, but not the one that wowed me. I just purchased a Woodford Reserve barrel pick, but I'm totally disappointed. The two things I get is a little bit of Carmel and tons of Oak spice. I'm trying to enjoy it, but it's not doing anything for me. I keep expecting more to jump out of the glass, but It keeps leaving me hanging.

It at least sounds drinkable. This WR Wheat is horrible. But, I hear people swear by it. Maybe it's just my bottle... I use it to blend with other whiskies mostly, because I can't take it by itself.

@@whiskeynightcaps6956 I noticed that WR is typically more Oak forward which for me is off putting. Is that the case with the wheater as well?

@@shawn84567 all I can pick up is ethanol. I think it must be very young.

@@whiskeynightcaps6956much like yourself, WR has a special place in my heart, and it hurts me when any of their products is not working for me, but it is what it is. Today, I struck out with Bernheim 7yr. I saw the 7 year age statement, but I popped it open and wondered if they meant 7 months. Straight ethanol watered mouthfeel, and not much else. Thanks for your review of that bro!

I've not tried Old Elk but have both others and I really like Bernheim OG and it's only $30. I'll go back and try my Woodford and maybe have the wife do a blind for me.
