Hello doctor I am a jr doc in otolaryngology myself I have a 1.5 cm left inguinal hernia on ultrasound gen surgeons couldn't detect it on physical exam but i could feel it on palpating carefully should I wait and watch or should I go for surgery which would be better for unilateral inguinal hernia open or laproscopuc I know surgeons who excel in both but I am very much afraid of the comolications and sex life. Hope you will reply.

Both open and laparoscopic surgery are good options. Lap tends to be less invasive which many patients appreciate.

1. Given this video is 9 years old and the lawsuits over MASSIVE mesh issues the stats he gives are not even clpse to reality. *the REALITY is sadly most hernias you require surgery but approximately 1/3rd (in men specifically) have post op complications. My only advice. 1. Still get surgery (it can't be avoided in many regoins) 2. HAVE A PAIN SPECIALIST READY post op (say 6 weeks out). They never tell you pain will radiate tp the groin, anus and so on if the hernia is below the belly button. 3. Never be afraid to demand a 2nd opinion if you're still in pain months later. Knowing what the exact cause is (usually nerve entrapment) is more important than just icing the surgery site. Good luck and good health to all! 🙏

Slept last night mostly flat (mistake)...will stay propped up a while now. Bending over tough also. Actually did some light errands this morning, but trying to take it easy. Plan on improving daily...will talk to surgeon next week. Appreciate your video!

Just had my first right ingunal surgery, I am 23 years old. I am 4 days in still feel pain all over and has been quite the battle so far, I am going to take all the short term disability leave I can get which is about 13 weeks and hope to get back to 100% within that time so I can go back to work, this video was very reassuring, I was feeling kinda down cause today has been the first day I woke up with mainly just pain in my groin area and not the incisions, so I guess that is common. Thank you doc

You won't need 13 weeks off. Don't worry, first 3 or 4 days are the worst. For a desk job you'll be ok to work after 3, I went back after 2. For a physical job like construction you might need 8-10. I'm 7 weeks post op now, starting back at the gym now with light weights and mobility work. I'm 40.
