Ho doctor harris , i had my inguinal hernia repair with mesh , open surgery. I had it 9 months ago , i have sometimes little pain under where my surgeon had the open. She told me that she cut the 3 nerv of the region for this reason the nerve are not in the mesh , i dont have them. This little pain is normal? Is the normal process of the closing of the skin? In many large inguinal hernia surgery patients, the lump extends to the top of the scrotum and how long it stay and why it hurts.

Swelling and bruising of the scrotum and testicles is 100% normal and expected after hernia repairs. This is due to some blood as well as normal tissue edema. It usually completely resolves in days/weeks after the surgery.

I am having bilateral sports hernia and inguinal hernia surgery done in two weeks, it seems like the surgeon is fixing both sides with mesh, I thought that repairing sports hernia was differnt that typical inguinal hernia as Ive seen them use mesh on the anterior portion of the muscle via a cut outside of the body is there a reason this is done internally just like a usualy inguinal hernia surgery

Hello. I am professional basketball player. I had open surgery with mesh cause of this exact problem (no hernia). My surgeon encouraged me to try to work out immediately after first week so after few days of being more active (mostly core and pelvic strengthening exercises) , my condition got much worse my wound got iritated and i started having sharp pains deep in that area. I've been prescribed with antibiotics and to rest with light walks. My question is could i make any damage to it or that should be just a reaction and it will get better with time. Thank you.

Sammy, that is a difficult question to answer since each patient is different. In most cases we recommend that our patients rest for several weeks to allow the muscles to heal before resuming full activities. Hopefully with some rest and anti-inflammatories most patients will heal normally.

Hello doctor, I recently had some discomfort right below my belly button after squating 3 days ago and felt off the first day. It got better forbthe next 2 days but today after massaging that spot I felt nauseated and my whole body felt lighteheaded with some hearing lost which lasted 3 minutes. Im dont see a lump or have any issues going to the bathroom. Do you think its possible a hernia? Thank you.

It would be difficult to provide an accurate diagnosis on this platform, but not seeing a bulge is a good sign that a hernia is less likely.

We place a similar sized mesh for sports hernias and inguinal hernias. The size of the mesh is more dependent on the patient size.

I had my small umbilical hernia (0.5cm) repaired 3 weeks ago. I did't get the mesh, only sutures. I'm an experienced weightlifter and i'm wondering if i can go back to some exercising very gently. I have no pain at all, everything seems to be healed very fast. Can running cause the sutures to rip? I'm very scared to undo the repair by starting running or weightlifting again. You read 3 months of NO WEIGHTS all over the internet. But my hernia was so small - is this necessary?

Hi. I've been through 2 bowel surgeries and 1 hernia repair. I have absolutely no core muscles. I am waiting my 4th op having an open multiple. I'm Afraid. Apparently it's a big op being cut from pelvis to just under my boobs and a huge mesh holding everything in. I'm frightened. 4th. Op in 3 yes. Please any chance you can give me hope. I'm only 46.

Having complex abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) is certainly a challenging surgery. However, surgeons perform this procedure almost daily and will certainly take good care of you. Good luck and keep us posted on your recovery.

Hello, I had a TEP laparoscopy bilateral hernia repair two weeks ago (obviously with mesh). Left side was inguinal + sports hernia repair and right side was only inguinal. Now right side is fine, however for left side, for two days ago, I start having numbness at the site where mesh was implanted and moderate pain (3-4/10 pain scale) irradiating to groin, inner tigh and testicles. It is normal process of healing or should I start worrying?

Having pains and numbness in the area of a hernia repair is 100% common even at 2 weeks. It can take months for inflammation and swelling to reside and the nerves and other tissue to return to normal.

🤔That's absolutely NOT a "sports hernia" though nor how you'd fix one I'd suggest. That's a conventional laparoscopic hernia repair which can treat a streotypical direct/indirect hernia fine but will not address the pathology most experts believe cause athletic pubalgia which is tension or tears of the adductor insertions. That requires an anterior open approach with adductor tendon release off the pubic bone and normally would not use mesh.

@@krisztianwirsz3612 no, there really aren't. A laparoscopic approach doesn't address the pathology for what we understand athletic pubalgia to be. Laparoscopic or open approaches can help in patients with groin pain that have indirect/direct inguinal hernia but they have failed for decades in treating the patients presenting with what came to be known as "sports hernia". The name itself came from the observation that surgeons could not find defects of the pelvic floor when explored. A patient improving with a laparoscopic/robotic underlay by definition didn't HAVE athletic pubalgia, they had a hernia
