I unfortunately won't be climbing for a little while as I just sustained a knee injury that will take a little while to heal. But I think it would be an interesting one to do a video on if it is one that interests your climbing Style
@Mostly_Toasty2 сағат бұрын
Aw sorry to hear that! Hope you heal up quickly. I do in fact have the video of that route already: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZ_FmKyBgap0atk&ab_channel=MostlyToasty Keep in mind, I DID do that route pretty shortly after it was set, so there was still the flatedge volume near the top. It really did not help as you'll see in the video (the janky beta was WAY harder than the dynamic step up). If you're ever wondering in the future if I've have a video on one of the routes, you can search on my channel - I always list them by [Grade] [Color] [Rope category] [Name] to make it easier for locals to find a video in case they're working on it.

What angle do you have your GoPro at for this? Straight forward, or does it cheat up/down? Also, is this is “superview” / extra wide angle?
@Mostly_Toasty8 күн бұрын
It's angled a bit downward so that it captures my foot movement (sometimes my head is in a more static position, but my eyes are peering down; the camera can't "peer down" so the downward angle helps correct for that discrepancy). Looking up is less affected since I'll typically tilt my head back to do so (as opposed to just looking up with my eyes) unless I'm doing a balance-heavy reach from a sloper. My top rope climbs are filmed using the hyperview setting - this helps to capture the reach-y lateral moves. My bouldering sessions are filmed with the linear setting. Hope this helps!

Hey what do you think about climbs new range grade system?
@Mostly_Toasty16 күн бұрын
I am not a fan! I don't mind the circuit grading's range system too much, but I just don't like how Climb approached it. It's just slightly more inconvenient to communicate to friends which one you're talking about. If they had introduced colored tags (like in many other gyms) instead of this funky brand symbol segmentation it would be much easier to be on the same page. On top of that, there are no more indicators on where to start - whether it's a matched start, separated hand start, etc. Sometimes, it's pretty intuitive, but other times I could see how someone could be confused and might end up skipping an intended move or two because it wasn't clear. What about you?
@Appleplayer16 күн бұрын
@ I also believe that it was implemented very poorly with the symbols and overlapping grades which basically tell you if the route you climbed was soft for its grade or real to it. The removal of the starting symbols is not a good idea and our GM in Murfreesboro said that adding tape would be “too confusing” which doesn’t make sense to me. Just know that there’s a binder at the front with all the grades which defeats the purpose of hiding the grades in the first place. Also the binder is kinda messy especially if you don’t know what’s the names of the walls. I’ve already made and sent a mock up of how it can be done better to the head setter at Climb Murfreesboro so I’m hoping it gets implemented so it’s easy to read for those who want to know
@Mostly_Toasty16 күн бұрын
@@Appleplayer Thanks for the info on the binder! And I agree - that defeats the purpose of obscuring grades. Thanks for advocating for us with your recommendations! I do hope they implement something better! Is there a way for us climbers to submit... feedback (criticism)? Or feel free to forward our concerns to the GMs - our entire group of regulars have very similar sentiments (negative reception) on the new system. One of them jokingly said he was going to start a petition (he might actually do it).
@Appleplayer16 күн бұрын
@@Mostly_Toasty yes do it! From what I’ve heard is that you should find your GMs contact card that the gym should carry and email your complaints! I will say to not go after the setters as they are doing nothing but their job. If a lot of people do it then we can all hopefully either come to a middle ground or revert this system!
@Mostly_Toasty15 күн бұрын
@@Appleplayer Oh I'd never go after the setters; I think they're doing a fine job (they're already overworked and probably underpaid at that). Thanks for the info! I'll push others to send in some feedback as well!

@cgblend397522 күн бұрын
yeah its fun you'll overcome the fear envtually if you do it constanly.
@Mostly_Toasty22 күн бұрын
You should totally try it some day! Are you afraid of heights or are you actually afraid of falling? If you do top rope, you'll be suspended in a harness (attached to a rope), which means even if you "fall" you'll only go down a couple feet. My wife thought she was afraid of heights but realized that being high up isn't a problem as long as she's secured with the rope/harness. Also, it's a great full-body workout, and on muscles you never knew you had! While it might not be as focused as a workout routine, I do think it's much more entertaining than the typical workouts where you're doing repetitive sets. I always have a blast every session.

Wow, that's some dedication for sure. At the end of the day, it matters not that you've climbed your first 5c, 6b, 7a or even 8b. Everyone starts climbing at different point in their life, progressing at their own pace with their own level. What's important is, if you're focused on performance, achieving new milestones and progressing. Because at the end of the day, we're all V0 climber compared to Janja or Adam, so does it matter ? Anyway, congrats for your ascent ! I'd try it too if I didn't live in the other side of the atlantic lol

So we were wondering if I had my foot in front of the rope as I fell, and in the video, you can see that it didn't actually get caught on the rope in the fall - I was just leaning back really far; my leg lightly bounced on the rope only after I was already upside down.

In my opinion, a head camera is just strange in a gym. The only focus you need is on fun and a nice session with fellow vertical enthusiasts. Stay safe
@Mostly_ToastyАй бұрын
I fully respect the opinion, but I'm just making a diary of my climbs. The videos have become something of a side hobby, and I'm taking it as an opportunity to practice presenting and to learn new skills (video editing). Going by the feedback from some of our local climbers, the videos seem to have helped a few of them, and I'm all for collaborating with and growing our climbing community. In fact, I've met a bunch of great people because of these videos that I otherwise would have missed! And I can assure you - with or without the GoPro - I'm always having a great time climbing and with our wonderful community.

It IS generally considered bad etiquette to climb under another. We normally would wait until we had an all-clear, but the other climber was a friend of ours and he was okay with it. It's also hard to avoid on this particular route since there's a lot of traversal sections.
