Hey what do you think about climbs new range grade system?

I am not a fan! I don't mind the circuit grading's range system too much, but I just don't like how Climb approached it. It's just slightly more inconvenient to communicate to friends which one you're talking about. If they had introduced colored tags (like in many other gyms) instead of this funky brand symbol segmentation it would be much easier to be on the same page. On top of that, there are no more indicators on where to start - whether it's a matched start, separated hand start, etc. Sometimes, it's pretty intuitive, but other times I could see how someone could be confused and might end up skipping an intended move or two because it wasn't clear. What about you?

@ I also believe that it was implemented very poorly with the symbols and overlapping grades which basically tell you if the route you climbed was soft for its grade or real to it. The removal of the starting symbols is not a good idea and our GM in Murfreesboro said that adding tape would be “too confusing” which doesn’t make sense to me. Just know that there’s a binder at the front with all the grades which defeats the purpose of hiding the grades in the first place. Also the binder is kinda messy especially if you don’t know what’s the names of the walls. I’ve already made and sent a mock up of how it can be done better to the head setter at Climb Murfreesboro so I’m hoping it gets implemented so it’s easy to read for those who want to know

@@Appleplayer Thanks for the info on the binder! And I agree - that defeats the purpose of obscuring grades. Thanks for advocating for us with your recommendations! I do hope they implement something better! Is there a way for us climbers to submit... feedback (criticism)? Or feel free to forward our concerns to the GMs - our entire group of regulars have very similar sentiments (negative reception) on the new system. One of them jokingly said he was going to start a petition (he might actually do it).

@@Mostly_Toasty yes do it! From what I’ve heard is that you should find your GMs contact card that the gym should carry and email your complaints! I will say to not go after the setters as they are doing nothing but their job. If a lot of people do it then we can all hopefully either come to a middle ground or revert this system!
