I don’t think the end result really sounds like Radiohead. What makes them a great band is that every song is a well-honed idea, agonised over months and years until it is crystallised and perfect. The idea of this song is that it’s an at attempt to copy their ‘sound’ but it has, as far as I can tell, no emotional depth and does not communicate anything at all. That’s why we like Radiohead, because their songs are speaking to us. Do you know what I mean?

@@kurtcleary6794 I make these videos for artists who have something to communicate, as you say, but are struggling to express it. My goal is to analyze the music theory and production behind the artists I recreate to make their “sound” more accessible. That way, people who are like Radiohead and have something to communicate are better equipped to do so. And it’s true that, on their own, sound/production style/theory are superficial. I make my own song in these videos to have a little bit of fun and show an example of applying all the theory discussed so it doesn’t come across like a boring university lecture. And yeah, I usually whip up the songs in an afternoon or so, and put most of my artistic & creative energy into making my own music and producing for other artists, which is my full-time job. So, sorry that I didn’t live up to the standard of one of the greatest albums of all time on a 20-minute educational video lol

that's a hell of a great video man. keep up the good work, very few channels on youtube are on this level of quality and showing step by step every little thing you did, and in a such fluid way. in rainbows is also my favourite of them, so keep up with the taste too! hahah. got me subbed.

Two scenarios: 1. I cover an alt-folk song and turn it into a hardcore punk rock song - if I change the guitar solo, is that materially changing the spirit of the song? 2. Take #1 but translate/interpret the song into a different language. Still a cover song? Scenario 3: where do parodies come in?
@lucasfourniermusic
@lucasfourniermusic 20 күн бұрын
@@ronjie to the best of my knowledge… 1) changing the guitar solo should be fine; 2) I believe translations qualify as a “derivative work”, so if you want to release that commercially in the US you’ll need to contact the copyright holder; 3) This one’s so interesting and I wanted to include it in the video but didn’t have space. Weird Al style parodies that use the melody to make an entirely different song are derivative works and NOT cover songs. BUT there’s an exception in copyright law for “commentary and critique”. So parodies that solely make fun of the original lyrics or music videos don’t infringe the copyright. Do you remember The Key of Awesome? Huge parody channel back in the day, but they could only make parodies that poked fun at the original music videos because of this.

What great talent and video mate! really enjoyed every second! when you talked about the all the gang vocals, how did you pan them? did you double the backvocals also?? how to know , how much to pan , which side and do we double??? :))
@lucasfourniermusic
@lucasfourniermusic 21 күн бұрын
thanks so much! my answer might not be satisfying haha but honestly I just wing it. I *usually* double-track every layer and pan one right one left, but it's a lot more random in terms of how far I pan them each side. I recommend just listening to the song's arrangement and asking yourself whether you want the vocals to sound wide or narrow, then pan accordingly!
