My stupid pump has a tether switch, so it is always getting stuck, the pump is always falling down. I cannot trust it. Why aren't all pumps using a vertical floating switch? In europe i cannot find pumps with vertical switches. Why? Why do manufacturers insist in thether switchs pumps? Can I change my pump's switch. Thanks.

Heyaa, the video was impressive🙌! I'm not really sure if it is the best time to ask but, I was wondering if I could help you create a better distribution by working on post-production like better storytelling through Edits, Keywords, think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips! Would love to chat if you're interested and keep creating good content:)

#2 mode of failure, corroded pump bearings. I've thrown out 3 pedestal style pumps and 1 submersible pump where the pump impeller bearings corroded and seized when the pump was sitting in a wet sump for a few months without being run. Saved from a wet basement in all cases by having a second pump sitting higher in the pit. It's sits high and dry even during normal operation of pump #1 and will kick in if the water level in the pit rises to activate the switch. Pump #2 is also on a separate electric circuit and breaker.

One problem with short cycling pumps is the ridiculously short 4 inches of travel of the float switch on a submersible pump. My pump is a 1/3 hp, 2880 gph pump. I can't really go with a smaller pump because in a huge downpour the pump just keeps up with the inflow to the pit. Last night we had 3" of rain on top of another 1-1/2" last week. The pump cycles every 15 to 20 seconds and pumps the pit down in 6 seconds. I've tried a pedestal type sump pump with a much longer float travel but have not found one with sufficient quality to last very long. The bearings corrode and seize up when not in use. The check valve works fine, no water backflows to the pit.

Why no mention of diaphragm switches. I have one on my little giant sump pump and it's worked flawlessly for over 25 years.

Thanks for the information. The retailer websites don't show any of that sort of info. FYI Switch range of motion means they activate at different water level. They are just different The tethered switch doesn't activate until it is higher than the pump, thus the water level is higher. So high that it wouldn't activate in my shallow sump. It works in my deeper sump, so I got a vertical switch for the shallow sump

I find the first pump switch a pain. I just had a new pump installed with that type of switch and it doesn’t even kick on sometimes. Causing a water mess in my crawl space. I adjusted the length of the cord hoping that it will kick on next time I get water build up.

I have a pump with the first float switch too, and I am just about tired of it. I think it gets stuck on the bucket, which causes it to trigger the pump intermittently, which forces me to go to the basement to manually trigger the pump. My handyman suggested a bigger bucket, but that would require digging out a bunch of rocks around the bucket in the trench, which would be a lot of work. I think it makes more sense to just get a new pump with a vertical float.

This switch is a piece of crap, it always malfunction with me. Sometimes it kicks in, other the pump falls down, other times it doesn't turn on, or it gets stuck. I'm wondering why, in Europe, I can only find submersive pumps with that type of floating switch. In fact, I never seen a pump with a vertical switch in any European store. I wonder why they keep insisting in that tethering crapping system. Where can I find the last pump? Thanks

my sump pump is going on ever minute right now and my basement joint cove is full of water. I do not think its helping drain the joint cove at all.. it stopped raining 10 hours ago

My problem was the pit was very old pit from the late 60s ,the pit was too small for the motor causing it to short cycle .

When it is raining my sump pump is running every 30 seconds. I think I need to enlarge the capacity of the sump hole so that when the pump kicks on it will run longer and have fewer cycles per hour.

Outstanding video, thank you! I have 2 sump wells, each have 1 hp pump. Cycle every 45 seconds. Just had new drain tiles installed inside and out. Constant waterflow all year. High water table here near Lake Michigan.

Very good and quick explanations of which switch is better. I ran electric to a Plumber Installed pump with a tether switch. Absolutely impossible to both turn on and off. Got an accessory “plug in” float switch from Home Depot. Taped the tether switch in the ON position. Plugged in the accessory switch, DONE.

My pump is running for 2 sec every 15minutes. Any way to stop this? Make it run for 8 seconds every hour maybe? Adjust the vertical float somehow?

Can some switches be adjusted to come on at like three inches of water.

the vertical float switch is a better option for a shallow sump bason too. a tether has to long a sweep for those.

I think this is well. I have a pump with a tether switch, but I think it gets stuck on the bucket that holds the pump, which makes the pump run intermittently, which forces me to have to go and trigger the pump manually. I think I'm going to just get a new pump with a vertical float switch.

Put the pump on bricks inside the pit and check to see where the water level sits on dry days so your not constantly fighting that level along with the rain water

The pump is only as good as the switch. I’ve replaced many pumps with switches that either got stuck on wouldn’t start when needed even though the pump itself was just fine. Liberty is the only one I know of that offers a magnetic reed switch, seems like a great idea.

@@sethmeistergee I just called to ask. It cost $500 the sump pump kit + $200 the battery + $100ish delivery. 5 Years warranty, but I dont have any reviews about it... I'm interested too... Any positive reviews?

Why are manufacturers unwilling to make or sell a switch with a long life? I have a stand-alone sump pump switch that probably has 1,000,000 cycles on it - and that is not an exaggeration. Of course it is probably 50 years old now. I would be willing to pay extra for a switch that will last as long as a good pump.

I’m about to install 8 of these in my basement. That video above looks like child’s play compared to what we get. It’s a long story, but fairly new but defective house put back on the market by a shady builder. A few owners later I have the house. Our previous 4 half HP pumps would run for 26 hours nonstop after certain rains. So we are completely redoing the drain tile, pits, and more. Will have two of these 3/4HP pumps in each pit, and four pits to make eight pumps total.

That's actually the Pitboss primary and our backup pump together. The switch has been redesigned since this video was shot. You can always check out our Megaboss pump if you have more water than that... kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6m7h4uIrtqVgMk

I literally, just a couple hours ago, replaced my sump in my crawl space with a beefier half horsepower 55 GPM. I noticed it was short cycling and it worried me, but I knew I needed it because when it comes a downpour the crawl space gets overwhelmed with water. Good to know that short cycling won't actually shorten its life.

Why the random "like"? (I'm assuming the other two are "friends and family, no?) while "up to 2 inch solids" is 'always thumb' worthy, this thumbs up was for the radical precision driving skills displayed at open; although I'd add a "subscribe and share" if you could 'drift' that bee-yah-itch- no, seriously: take that mofo outside, come down a hill, whatever ya gotta do to build enough speed and inertia to kick 'er a$$ end out and get some powerslidin going on: YES!
