This video shows how to install PolyCove, a cove diverter from Richtech Industries.
PolyCove is an ultra high molecular weight thermoplastic cove diverter that directs water down the wall and into the French drain system. It is installed on the footer along the perimeter of the basement floor. PolyCove is seamless, highly flexible and easy to install.
Step 1 - Measure the job
First, Measure the length of each wall to determine the number of linear feet you’ll need for the job. PolyCove is sold in 100’ rolls and is available in 1 or 2’ widths. PolyCove is also available in grey or black.
Step 2 - Break up floor
Next, break up the floor about 12”-18" away from the wall around the perimeter of the basement. The goal is to completely expose the footer and create a trench next to it for the interior drainage pipe. The footer and pipe will ultimately be covered by PolyCove.
Step 3 - Install the French drain pipe
As you lay the drainage pipe in the trench, pitch it so water flows toward the sump basin. Fill any voids in the trench with gravel to help water flow into the drainage pipe. Remember, you can pour concrete directly on top of PolyCove, so you don’t need to worry about covering it with extra gravel.
Step 4 - Drill weep holes
Drill weep holes in the block wall to relieve water pressure that may be built up inside. These holes will also allow any future water buildup easy passage into the drainage system. The holes are typically drilled into each mortar joint, plus 1-3 more in the wall of each block.
Step 5 - Roll out the PolyCove
Now that the French drain system has been installed, it’s time to cover the wall, footer and pipe with PolyCove. Roll out the PolyCove and lay it against the footer with the dimples facing the wall and ground. PolyCove's ultra high molecular weight thermoplastic construction means it can be folded over and over without cracking, but can easily be cut with a knife to cover inside and outside corners. Take note of where your corners are and how many cuts you’ll need to make.
Step 6 - Attach to wall/Create corners
As you move down the wall, use a masonry nail gun to attach the PolyCove to the wall. You can also attach PolyCove directly to the footer.
Cut the PolyCove near the bottom with a knife to create corners. You can overlap the PolyCove for inside corners... and for outside corners you can fill the gap with a small cut piece of PolyCove. Remember, PolyCove can be bent and folded over and over without cracking, so take your time when snugging it up to the wall and footer.
Step 7 - Re-pour the floor
Once you’ve covered the entire perimeter of the basement with PolyCove, it’s time to re-pour the concrete floor. You can pour concrete directly on the polydrain, which will reduce the amount of gravel needed... while creating a thicker, more sturdy floor.
