Hey, Eric! Man, this one is staying with me. I love it too much to let it go. There's currently one on Reverb, though. Might be worth contacting the seller to see if you can work a good deal.

I feel like the ancient Chinese would be insulted in this cheap metalwork, yet it still sounds cool.
@9emmett913 күн бұрын
Ha! I suppose you're right that the value in these Wuhans isn't in the painstaking attention to visual detail, nor the time-consuming effort toward absolute tonal-perfection, but somehow, with this particular specimen, I wouldn't want a single thing to have been done differently. It epitomizes the perfect China sound in my mind's ear.
@IRLguy77712 күн бұрын
Those wuhan cymbals are made in the same crude traditional way they always were. Historically speaking, china cymbals were never made with any painstaking attention to detail, they were just noise makers as most cymbals were back then.

You should definitely flip that china over if you aren’t riding on it. Just put a felt and a wing nut on top and it’ll stay on snug. Flipping it will give it a much longer lifespan, as you won’t be crashing directly on the edge of the cymbal.

I have China cymbals that I've been mounting bell-up for over 20 years. I've never cracked a China cymbal, and I've been playing them since 1985. I prefer the tone of Chinas being crashed with the bell up (edge up). Occasionally I'll mount one bell down, and I use Aquarian spring mounts when I do that. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts.

I nabbed this off some lovely person on the internet back in the very late 90's and was so happy to have a Sunday's song I hadn't heard (since I heard it live on this tour). Thank you, long lost internet person. I didn't dream at the time it was the last "new" recording I'd get. Man we were so lucky to get to enjoy this lightning in a bottle, weren't we?

A college roommate turned me on to this band in the early 90's... later when I lived in Italy, I came across the album on the Hut label... then years later in New York, I was working on a project with an art director who heard me playing this, turned out it was the guitar payers wife. She introduced me to him a few days later and he was really moved that I loved his music. Serendipity level 11! Still a moving song...

Very cool! Any chance it was Miki Berenyi (of Lush fame) whom you met? She's married to Kevin McKillop (aka "Moose"). She and he are now in a band together called Piroshka.

Ummm isnt this at the wrong speed? Or had i been playing it at 45 for all those years?
@9emmett9 Жыл бұрын
No, this is the correct speed. Maybe you've been listening to it at 33rpm. I made a recording of it at both speeds back then, and recall this track sounding kind've cool at the slower speed. I did that with several records back then. One glowing example of a record sounding good at the incorrect speed is Autechre's remixes of Gescom's Keynell (WAP88) at 33rpm. They don't sound as good as those tracks at the correct speed, mind you, but it's just another interesting take.
