The elk's lunges were not serious attempts at harm; he was simply demonstrating his prowess. And the horses were protected by the barrier and did not seem to be overly concerned or intimidated! That foolish man will be hurt one day because of his own ill-advised actions!

I’ve heard from a lot of hunting guides that horses get very nervous and finicky when they smell an elk, much more so than when they smell a grizzly bear even. Very strange dynamic these animals have.
