How do you solve the door gap in the finished picture? I assume it’s a floor levelling issue with solid legs shifting the cabinet out of square but curious how you’d go about it?
@ModernWoodRunner
@ModernWoodRunner 3 күн бұрын
Good question. The cabinet is gapped at the fabrication stage, with adjustable feet installed, painted and then reassembled. The door gaps are adjusted after the piece is assembled and completely installed at the customers house. We probably just hadn’t adjusted the feet before that picture was taken. Most of the time floors are never flat and adjustments of anywhere from 1/16 to 1/4 of an inch have to be done to get door gaps right at install.👍

How many coats do you prime? Is that first coat, sand, second coat?

We usually only need one coat, beings that the sealer is quite thick. We will cans the sealer, and if needed we will spot prime burn through and then proceed to lacquer top coat.

@@ModernWoodRunner So that coat you showed in the short was first coat with grain raise and laid like that before the first scuff sand? I've never seen a product have zero grain raise. @@ModernWoodRunner thanks for your response. Is it cloud based or do you have to download it? I've seen that you can save some templates for common cabinet styles and just click and add on a template layout. Really interesting looking into alternatives to SketchUp or 2020
@ModernWoodRunner
@ModernWoodRunner 16 күн бұрын
@@tericottaclay9462 not a cloud based program. Yes, you can download it, but it’s a license based program. The initial cost is about $5k and you can reup your license yearly for around $1200. You can elect not to reup your license and just use the program without updates. Solidworks, to my knowledge, doesn’t have templates, but I’m sure they are out there, I’ve just never looked. I started using Solidworks about 20 years ago in the aerospace industry and an interior design engineer.

Is the dried mold manageable enough that you could make a full template to the size of a series of standard doors that would be the to dimension (think of a picture frame) that could be placed onto a door to minimize effort of “squaring” or measuring and cutting individual pieces?

Just one thing: I’m pretty sure the shinto is desgined to be faster tho, the farrier is a bit longer and slower, so a more accurate test would be to use the same amount of rasp area for both. You can do more strokes with a shinto in the same amount of time, increasing the amount of wood removed.

Good point! I was making a simple comparison, and actually I wanted to make a point the a farrier rasp is a legit woodworking tool. Thanks for the feedback!

@@ModernWoodRunnerOh yeah for sure, I just ordered a shinto rasp so I’m really excited to use it! And yeah I think both are extremely capable tools, they’re essentially two different takes on a very coarse rasp that shaves of a lot of material, I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about both! Rasps are very underrated tools for woodworking, anyways good day! :)

Carpenters are always going to be in demand but it’s hard to get really good at the other facets of woodworking as a carpenter. Furniture makers tend to master most aspects of woodworking but they stay in their shops for the most part. Cabinet makers are kind of dying out because the CNC can do so much of their job.

Bamboo isn’t a great material for furniture making. Second, bamboo doesn’t paint well enough for high gloss lacquer. Third, rich clients aren’t going to buy anything made out of bamboo. I have no issue with the actions of the person in relation to the jointer. BUT, the jointer "GUARD" is incorrectly used and misunderstood. CORRECTION, get rid of that guard it's a dangerous fraud of a guard and move the vertical fence over to only expose the amount of blade needed for the thickness of material jointed. the guard should be mounted on the side of the jointer, "NOT IN USE". Engineers without experience these devices to limit liability, not to work safely or efficiently..... The common reason for not doing this is re-sharpening more often, but what is your hand worth?
