Excellent content man. Would love to see more of your finish schedule, coats, sanding, dry time between. Keep up the good work. Also do you use caulks or wood fillers on seams or stile to panel transitions?

Right on! I’ll make some more paint content. We use fillers during the initial prep stage, before primer. Trying to use fillers after prime will show through when you spray high gloss lacquer. We NEVER use caulks.

Your crows feet (type of cracking shown in your video) may be from applying additional coats before the prior has flashed enough. With the lower temps coupled with the higher humidity in January “may” have affected shop temps and paint application I know you’ve got plenty of experience dealing with shop and paint related issues, but thought it might be worth mentioning for your followers.

You’re probably correct 👍 without proper cure time lacquer can certainly crack. My intention here is to teach others how to deal with lacquer problems without having to sand and respray. Hope all is well, Mike!

@@ModernWoodRunner I am doing well. Thank you sir! I fully agree with the respraying and balance of time with effort. Respraying sounds simple enough until you get a bunch of additional debris and “fixes” needed which exacerbate the timeline.

Great video with good content. Are you using nitro or poly & how many coats. Thanks!!!

We use nitrocellulose precat. We generally spray two coats but often have to resend and add a third.

@@ModernWoodRunner I use a Spraymax 2K in the can. Once you break the hardener inside you have 48 hrs to use. I really like it, it’s hard but wet sands okay.

Is that a pigmented top coat color coat or do you clear gloss over the color and buff the clear?

The product is precatalyzed lacquer…thats it. No top coat. Most people place glass on top of lacquered furniture. You can also use conversion varnish, which is much more durable but harder to fix.👌👌
