I remember hearing this song many times in the late 1960s.

I still remember when I was a young lad visiting my beautiful grandma, all my uncles and aunties had left home so she was on her own. I visited every Saturday, and we both loved my visits, I was her eldest grandchild & according to everyone, I was her favourite. This one particular Saturday I found some old 78s in a cupboard, they were in the 50s & 78s were the only record you could buy in those days for single records. They were all Frankie’s records. I asked my gran who these records belonged to, and she said your uncle, he had left them when he got married and moved away. The old record payer was above the cupboard so I put one of them on, it happened to be Cool Clear Water. I listened to it and was in awe of his voice and the song. I spent all afternoon playing those records, High Noon, champion the Wonder Horse, and many more, from that day over 60 years ago I've loved this voice and especially his western soundtracks. Those days were good, simple days and I treasured them with my lovely gran.

I will go to my grave saying that American country and western music is the purest form of expression humans have seen in thousands years. It’s incomparible to anything else, it’s like if emotions had sound.

My mum always said that this was Elvis's first record . I didn't know for sure if that was true. Now it appears to be more than my mum who says so.

Interesting that I have such a moved feeling listening to the voice of Frankie Laine. Especially since my initial introduction to both was as the vocalist of the "blazing saddles" theme song.
