This may be a dumb question, but is there a risk in keeping your backups on a server and not downloading them locally? If my site gets hacked and everything gets wiped out, can I expect that a good hosting provider (GoDaddy, in my case) to have backups (of my backups) on hand?

nice! thanks! what shoud be added because it may confuse newbies (like me) who do this for the first time is: make sure that "$dbprefix" in the "configuration.php" matches with the prefixes of the tables in the database on your webserver. because it can happen that the prefixes on your localhost differ from those on your webhost (when you use joomla the first time and have no idea what you are actually doing)
