nice! thanks! what shoud be added because it may confuse newbies (like me) who do this for the first time is: make sure that "$dbprefix" in the "configuration.php" matches with the prefixes of the tables in the database on your webserver. because it can happen that the prefixes on your localhost differ from those on your webhost (when you use joomla the first time and have no idea what you are actually doing)

QUESTION: Great tut, Scot. I'm fairly new to all this so, suppose I've created my Joomla website on localhost and as I need to make changes and update and add to, etc., do I do this on my localhost and re-upload everything again?

In PHPmyAdmin, when you export the database, there should be an option to save to a sql file. Check under custom or advanced settings. The new database name doesn't need to match. Just edit configuration.php. Find the line that tells Joomla what the database name is.

Subdomains usually just point to a folder under your root site directory. Add that folder to the paths and you should be set. Your web host should be able to provide more support if you need it.

what about the reverse. What if I take a data base and a joomla website I created on my hosting account and transfer it to my local host. What do I have to alter in the configuration file of my webpage to have it work with the database on my localhost. Thanks for any help

I do not. But first thing you should check is your config.php file. Make sure the database name, database username and pw are all updated to match your setup on the localhost environment.

Please i need your help! i did a full domain backup thinking and it ended up to 7gb. after i transferred my domain name to another service provider i noticed that i can't restore the domain due to domain space of 1gb. looking at your video, i see that one can copy the joomla website directory and do the config.php setup.

When you export your database, Chrome saves the database to a file called kotobatest(dot)sql, but when I do that, Chrome displays the text of the database in the text frame of the browser window. Am I supposed to copy this text, paste it into a new text file, and name it mydatabasename(dot)sql?? Why doesn't it do it automatically for me like it does for you?

Dude , you forgot about changing "/home/xxxx/public_html/logs" and /home/xxxx/public_html/tmp , in the config.php file , else it would create problems in logging in the joomla backend(Since it was earlier set to some other directory in the computer eg E://XAMP/htdocs/demo .

Joomla 3 has a problem with links and images. When I update links and images on local server everything works fine, but on live server they fail. Actually its adds an odd double forward slashes before and after the link e.g.( //WWWdotSITEdotCOM// ) plus it changes the links to upper case. What could be the problem, help please.
