My paternal grandparents spent the last third of their lives at LongLeaf, and I have many happy memories of visiting them there. The two kids in the photo that shows up about a minute into this video are me and my sister, and I was surprised to see it. But the photo comes from a collection of Longleaf photos that my late father had taken and digitized, and I'm glad to see them put to use. In the video, Everett Lueck says the 1919 post office building was active up into the mid-1950s "or even after". Actually the "even after" is correct, as I remember when the new post office building began to be used, and it was in the (probably early) 1960s. If my memories of the 1919 post office are correct, the building was located overhanging a ravine or creek, which as a kid, I found to be a very interesting if precarious location. I can understand why you moved it.

Well done video sir! We have one of these up in the Klamath County Logging Museum that’s near Chiloquin, OR (about 30 minutes north of Klamath Falls, OR in south central Oregon off of Hwy 97) yours however, is in excellent shape, just incredible!

I would highly recommend NOT running Antifreeze in these engines they have an "evaporator not a radiator". And the if you know the difference between the two you will understand, and because antifreeze has a higher boiling point then just straight water it in fact will cause the engine to over heat since it cools it self by boiling water off as steam. Thank You @deepsouthmotorcaradventure5999

Do these use mix fuel like 2 stroke blend
@linctexpilot8337 Жыл бұрын
What I gather is these engines are two-stroke, so they will require oil to be mixed with gasoline. They will run in either direction, so forward and reverse, is determined by which direction the engine is running. .

Is this a Standard Gauge Heisler, or 3’ narrow?
@redrivergulfrailroad8989 Жыл бұрын
The RR&G is standard gauge railroad. Though this Heisler is pretty small, she's still SG. More info here: redriverandgulf.net/RRG-Heisler.html

There probably won't be a video of the conversion, but there will be a page on the website. And, of course, there will be lots of video of it running afterwords.

I world love to come see it! I love in North idaho and we did have mills very much like this at one point in time. Some carried the old buildings through to about 20 years ago, but were modernized on the inside. I've got many old old pictures of miles that were setup just as this on still is! I'd say this is probably the only surviving original example of a pre 1960s sawmill

You know there are songs they used to sing when they drove those spikes. Wasn't just one guy driving, it was several at a time and they sang special songs and kept in sync.

Yes. She’s a stick. However, the stick was missing so a new one will be fabricated.

It's a weird little thing, it's a manual - hydraulic transmission
@everettlueck19302 жыл бұрын
Yes, as Jacques said it is both manual and hydraulic, however, it cannot be shifted on the fly. You have to decide which of the 4 gears you want to run it while it is sitting still, and then take off.
