Thing that pisses me off is when i mention the name Guthrie Govsn to the youngsters who i tutor , 9/10 of them dont know who he is ! Its very annoying as he is this generations Jason Becker , another genius virtuoso who should have got the recognition he deserved too.

Beside absolutely brilliant guitar technique in sooo many different genres & styles, Guthrie just feels music and has a sense of humour while playing

There’s thousands of people who have incredible guitar techniques, Jimmy Hendrix didn’t have the best technique, but he was super original, created his own sound and was cool. Technique has nothing to do with greatness

I’ve seen this other guy, I think he died, but he had invisible f holes, he was diabetes huge, and he played one note with the fattest sausage finger and shook his whole fat hand all around for this wonky vibrato, his right boob leaked over the whole guitar it was insane, someone gave him an honorary doctorate threw it in the ⚰️

Okay given I’m only twenty seconds in, but Guthrie has all the hair, lots of notes on many strings, that other sad bloke has none of the hair, one note on one string, and he’s so slow and sad, Guthrie want to smoke this foo, okay back to it, crossroads flashbacks already I’m sweating no that’s pee pee oopsie guys

It’s hard to be super prescriptive regard the best of anything, but if someone could point me in the direction of any guitarist anywhere, alive or dead, who can transpose himself in to any song, in any genre, in any style and seamlessly integrate himself with such a range of skill, feel, and precision then I really really want hear that person play. GG is like a memory bank, a human Chat GPT of guitar players. If there’s something he can’t do I’m not sure anyone’s born witness to it, and we probably only see 5% of what he can do anyway. Absolute genuine one off total genius.

Its funny how some people in the comments need to start comparing guitar players and who's better - it seems they have grown up in an environment that cannot accept the fact there can be multiple amazing things at the same time without one being better than the other. Like all the 5 basic elements have the same value. Nothing is greater or better than the other.
