Thank you for the video! What about when store 3 closes? How would you account for that for future year?
@RetailDogmaАй бұрын
It would be excluded from the calculation like the new store in this video. In order for a store to be included in the same store sales calculations, it must have traded throughout the two periods that are being compared.

A lot of products are priced at a rate that is way higher than the cost of the underlying product itself. It happens all the time in luxury goods for example. Unless the brand is making misrepresentations about the product and its features, benefits or sources, it wouldn't really be considered a scam. It is their right to set the price as high as they want, and customers have all the right to refuse to buy from them. People are ready to pay up for a lot of things, such as image, convenience, saving time... etc., and some brands are smart to take advantage of that.

Assortment planning is a dynamic process that is based on market trends and insights from inside the business on how the different products & categories are performing, and then responding to all this by adapting the assortment.

Hello, Please correct me. I didnt understand about "Ramadan month" (timestamp 2.02) where you said many retailers find it easier with a normal calender. Then why using 4-5-4 retail calender then ? . Please explain why "Ramanadan month" retail calender is not helpful ? . Correct me if i am wrong in understanding. Thank you 🙏
@RetailDogma7 ай бұрын
Hello Ramesh, Not all retailers in all countries adopt the 454 calendar. Many just follow the normal monthly calendar because the 454 calendar doesn't help in aligning key events for them. For example, in the Middle East a lot of key events are based on the Hijri calendar, such as the month of Ramadan and Eid periods.. it is equivalent to the holiday season in the U.S.. but because Ramadan keeps shifting every year 10 or 11 days backwards, it doesn't have a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar anyways, and so in one year it might fall in one calendar month, and the next year it would partly shift to the previous month. The idea of the 454 calendar is that it aligns weekends and holidays, so that reporting would be comparable, but that might apply to a market like the US, but wouldn't be applicable to a market like the Middle East. So in this case just following the normal calendar would be easier for these retailers, because it aligns with their accounting and tax reporting timings, and for them no added value is provided by adopting the 454 calendar.

In theory it looks like the equation makes sense, but it's not really logical. In the real world, it's not the quantity of traffic but also the quality. You can bring millions of poor people without money to the store and sales will still be the same. And in this case no matter what you change inside your store or the upselling/cross selling techniques you use, you will suddenly have a conversion rate (CR) of almost zero. Or on the other hand, if the quantity of traffic remains unchanged, but you bring other kind of people with money, then without doing nothing else to the store, the CR can even double, and so your total sales.
