Where did you get that fabric so beautiful and great pattern selection
@rebeccamoir434821 күн бұрын
I bought it from a store called Spotlight, here in Australia. In the furnishings/upholstery section. ☺

I love how it this came out! Beautiful craftsmanship!! 😍😍I have a question what type of interfacing fabric did you use? How do you transfer the pattern markings to the fabric?
@rebeccamoir43482 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I used a sew in interfacing by Birch, it's called Shape to Create Woven Shapewell from Spotlight. I used a ruler and coloured pencils to mark the lines onto it and it worked really well!

@rebeccamoir43482 жыл бұрын
I used the Simplicity 8162 pattern designed by the ladies at American Duchess. The pattern comes with a boning template for partially boned stays, but I just added more boning in between the already marked lines of the template to make them extra supportive. Happy sewing!

i have never sewed anything with a sewing machine in my entire life… but i am DETERMINED to make an absolutely gorgeous collection of stays… thanks for this lovely video.

And you will absolutely be able to do it! Stays look very intimidating but are really quite simple if you just work through each step one by one. This was my first pair and I've made another since, the hardest part is hand sewing the binding around the tabs and the most exhausting part is sanding down all the boning! Good luck.

Very nice video except for the ultra-tiny captions which are hard to read anyway, but even harder when they run off the end of the background colour and have a mix of whatever the video is showing behind them making it almost impossible to see them in places.

Absolutely beautiful work. I was thinking of buying this pattern but I wondered if it has machine instructions? My hands won't cope with all the hand sewing. Once again, stunning work!
@rebeccamoir43483 жыл бұрын
Hey Kathy, thanks for watching! I did do a little bit more hand sewing than the pattern called for as I deviated slightly from the instructions, but if I remember correctly the edge binding and the lining (?) called for hand stitching in the pattern instructions. You could definitely omit the lining and machine stitch the binding down - Or place the lining on top of the stays and stitch the binding over the top of it to hold it in place - This would be a bit tricky and fiddly to get it through the machine but it's definitely been done before! I'd suggest a quick google on how to machine bind eighteenth century stays. x

What was the lining fabric you used for the lines and such on the boning? Looks by far the easiest to use.
@rebeccamoir43483 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebecca, the white interlining fabric I used was a heavy weight sew in interfacing from my local fabric store. The pattern suggested using buckram but I wasn't able to get it in my area without ordering online, but this worked perfectly and draws on very easily with pencil. Any heavy weight woven fabric would do, cotton, drill, denim... x

I wish I had seen this BEFORE I used the pattern. Watching you stitch One side of the bias tape down before folding it over and THEN attaching the otherside is the ONLY way you will get it to work. Wow. Also, god your work is so lovely. Thank you for this video. I'll try making a second pair of stays at a later date.

Absolutely! The pattern instructions are a big all over the place at the best of times. I did a lot of reading before I started making my stays which is the only reason I avoided this mistake. Once you know, it's a pretty straight forward project! Good luck. x

Your hand sewing is beautiful. Very neat and precise. The gabric is not so nice. In my mind it doesn't make sense. Maybe stash buster for demonstration purpose or maybe not. Just what you liked. Either way fabric choice is yours to judge i suppose. Either way beautifully done. I aspire to make such a nicely constructed stays for myself. Thank you for the video.
