I have one of the Hummingbird Originals. I absolutley love the Hummingbird. If I had more money than since, I'd have a Dove as well. LOL

About how much was this guitar sold for? Really interested in a similar build

Based on the information provided, my guess, humbly speaking, is that the size 1 or 2, made of Italian Alpine Spruce (hopefully Moon Spruce) Top, Walnut Side & Back, Ebony Fretboard, and Hog Neck,12th Fret Joint would sound great (to my liking), while some sort of new, innovative Cut-away mechanism to facilitate good access to higher frets would definitely be appreciated.

I chose the 50’s J 45 and love it! What kind of thumb pick does Quinton use?

All things considered the Yamaha is the big winner. It's a jumbo though and I dont think the others were.

I have been trying to arouse interest in Walnut as a tonewood for forty years now--here in South-central Appalachia we have millions of great Black Walnut trees. They are a pioneer species in poor soil and grow huge in bottom land.

Just picked up an HD 28. I have a 1975-D35 which is my workhorse. But, the neck profile on the HD 28 is incredible. It feels a bit slimmer and feels a tiny bit wider. For me, I do a lot of fingerpicking and the spacing on the fretboard is incredible. Comparing sound is also interesting. The 35 is loud, has great low end. The 28 booms and seems to me to have a more even tone across miss to highs. The 28 is also a bit lighter. You also cannot beat the beautiful herringbone binding and back. Martins r simply gorgeous instruments!

It is really a clear Martin sound ! Great guitar !

Walnut is probably the prettiest wood out there. And it's not a tropical hardwood of dubious origin. Unfortunately, none of that makes it a good guitar toonewood. None of the walnut-back guitars I've tried convinced me. They all sounded too bell like, too bright, which produces a lot of noise when playing. The strings just didn't blend together when strummed.

Wonderful character in the tone of walnut.. sort of dark and earthy.

Lovely top, The walnut looks really sweet. Sounds dead, like a laminated back.

No. Prefer my rosewood D-41! Gibson have been pushing walnut too, but I've yet to play a walnut guitar that I wanted to take home. OK, I will admit that I used to feel the same way about maple guitars, but now I have two J-185s and 2 K Yairis that I love, so perhaps it's just a matter of time!

Both articulate very well. The tones coming out of the D55 seem to bloom and expand. The D-28 tone is tighter focused and collectively the notes sing beautifully. Tough choice.

That D-41 just sparkles. I have a 2006 Taylor 414-LTD where they did a limited run in aged Spruce and Claro Walnut. TBH, the back wasn't the stunner the D-41 has there, but its still a very nicely figured piece that has some red color in it too, especially the sides. I agree, tonally it's very balanced. I have a rosewood backed hi-end (F-25 Lowden) guitar with a Cedar top and the 414 compares surprisingly very favorably versus the Lowden. So I concur, Walnut is a completely legitimate option for a tone wood if you're looking for something on the custom side. Play on and be well.

Sounds amazing! I like the tone and depth. I’ve played a few walnut guitars and have decided my dream guitar is a walnut 000 with VTS top.

These guitars sound different from one another, to me. Some have more low end, some are brighter. I think the standard has the best sound. Plenty of lows and highs are on tap. By comparison, some of the others sound dull. I wrote the preceding sentences before reading comments from others. I was happy other people expressed the same opinion.

What mahogany or Rosewood? Walnut has some overtones, but mot like East Indian Rosewood. More overtones than mahogany

YES on walnut! Martin does it extremely nicely.. I started with an Eastman E22 (Adirondack-walnut), and that sold me on Walnut. There are a few different types, but that D42 sounds and looks great. Thanks, Chad, Paul, and Quinton

walnut is my favorite aesthetically, sonically I am still looking for one that I like but I've only played like 2 and I'm very picky. been watching a lot of lot sawing videos on youtube and it's really interesting the parts of the tree that creates the figure in the woods. I still would want a plain straight grained over a figured guitar but that is really freaking cool.

Woah, that's low. I feel it in my chest, right from the intro. That Walnut depth of color on the back, looks like Maple's half-brother. Imagine this guitar after 10 - 15 years of playing, i mean, it resonates forever already.. it'll just get sweeter. This should sound tugboat low in D.
