I like this anthem better than O Canada, but personally the lyrics with Britain are kinda annoying. WE should bring this anthem back with new Canadian lyrics! 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦

At the Armed Forces School of Music (back in 1985) I was a young Basic Course student in the Army. I was scheduled to play in an Exam Band for the Bandmaster course students (called WOCs or Warrant Officer Candidates). The exam was that the student was to "render honors, both moving and stationary" for different individuals based on rank. So a soldier would mount the podium and then draw a card out of a bowl. It would say something like "MOVING HONORS, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES" and they would have to call out, "TRUMPETS AND DRUMS: four Ruffles and Flourishes and 'Hail to the Chief' " and then conduct the honors and the march, Another example would be for the card to read "STATIONARY HONOROS, THREE STAR ADMIRAL OF THE US NAVY" and the student would have to call out, "TRUMPETS AND DRUMS: three Ruffles and Flourishes and 'The Admiral's March' " and then direct that. Then this fellow mounted the podium and drew the card that read, "MOVING HONORS, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES". Unlike the title of this KZbin video, the actual title of this piece is not "Hail Columbia" but "Hail, Columbia!" and the candidate fairly shouted, "TRUMPETS AND DRUMS: THREE RUFFLES AND FLOURISHES 'HAIL - COMMA - COLUMBIA - EXCLAMATION POINT!' and then he led the band as we all laughed at his enthusiasm. He did well, too. But he shouted out that title with the punctuation with some damned authority. I loved it!

Keep up the good work Cadet! I have the honour to see the flag ceremony on the spit at Comox for the Sea Cadets each summer. I wish I had served in the cadets... My military career started at HMCS Discovery as a reservist. That was followed by a regular force career. Aim for the stars my friend. The CF family will be there for you. LCDR (retired) sends.

A beautiful song. I cannot count the number of times I have been on parade and heard this song. Usually at parade rest during an inspection. We are so lucky to live in the true north, strong and free. And Trudeau and his WEF buddies will not take it away from us. Stay free, stay resilient, my friends and patriots. We stand on guard for thee. From a veteran of the Canadian Airborne Regiment.

Hail Columbia was composed as an anthem; "To Anacreon in Heaven" (the Star Spangled Banner) was composed as a drinking song (and also, not by an American). The difference in quality is obvious. SSB has a good melody and when played instrumentally, can definitely stir up emotions in me, but Hail Columbia is far more elegant, has better lyrics, and most importantly for a national anthem, is easier to sing. I think we made the wrong choice.
