Nice version of LotR - I have it (and Hobbit and Dilmarillion) but unfortunately missed out on the newer limited edition (now worth a small fortune). I have a number of others - 2 sets of the Gormenghast trilogy (next favourite books ever after the LotR/Silmarillion) and Catch-22, perhaps 3rd. A good few others - The Odyssey is on the way to me...

This is four years ago? Even now it look too modern with the cartoonish art. I hate they put pictures on that cover. If there were gonna be any picture it should be just a logo with gold gilding. But sure the quality is nice. It just scream 21st century. Doesn't feel very classic.

Hello, the problem is that since the first edition of the Hobbit illustrated by Alan LEE it shares the same ISBN, so when I search on Google on internet with the ISBN reference I see mostly 1997 editions (the original one). The one you share in the video is a more recent version, but with still the same ISBN, but is there a year of publication to help make a difference in the search tool with the 1997 one ?

I love your channel, so happy to see a new video, I found so many beautiful editions thanks to you. I just incidentally saw this edition of The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer while researching the Calla edition of The Scarlett Letter but never realised it was this lovely and historically significant. Thank you for this beautiful presentation.

I'm 76 years old but love the series & movies. I read the books in 80 days. I read the last one in 4 days & cried through most of it because it was the end & so many characters died. It would never be the same. J K Rowling is a wonderful author & makes the books seem to come to life.

2:01 see that is why I hate softcover. They're falling apart as soon as you get them. For books you really love, buying them new, it's worth it to get the hardcover.

Oh my God I love those books and the music. I agree it's very fun to read hard copies of books. And most of us are willing to pay for quality. I hate buying a book that falls apart before I'm done reading it!

I prefer Oxford Classics. These are accompanied by supplementary reading material related to the subject. The supplementary notes are meticulously tailored by scholars of highest quality. It gives critical insight into the background of the book, its author, the historical and literary context in which it was written and many more.

How about you don't spoil the endings of the books you review? I was looking forward to reading the Mishima book and you just spoiled the ending! That was a very stupid thing to do.

Olá! Tudo bem? Você sabe me dizer? Realmente é feia mas eu sou colecionadora e gostaria de saber sobre.

The first thing I liked about Mr Thornton was at the beginning of the novel when he was in the room when Mr. Hale and Margaret learned that their new house in Milton with the awful wallpaper could not be changed further landlord. But then without telling anyone, Mr. Thornton uses his influence to convince the landlord in Milton to change the awful wallpaper. So, when the Hale family arrives to their new house, they discovered the awful wallpaper is gone. But I don’t think they ever discovered that it was changed because of Mr. Thornton. Mr. Thornton never sought out credit for doing this; he just did this because he was being kind and he overheard how awful the wallpaper was and that the Hale family was pretty disappointed that it was going to have to remain in place.

Have gotten to the point where I prioritising the best translation for aesthetics and it’s kinda sad but hey ho I guess I just go with whatever edition does the best translation for works that need translating. Otherwise I really like the penguin classics and the barnes and noble flexibound classics (they don’t have notes or anything but they’re really pretty)

For me, the best will always be the original US edition with the Mary GrandPré illustrations. It just fits the books perfectly. My runner-up is the UK Deluxe editions. They're almost too beautiful to read.
