Please don't press down the page at the hinge! It literally hurts me to see a book, especially a collectible book, treated like that.

I happen to know the printing business in China. This printer produces a lot of high quality hard cover books.

2:01 see that is why I hate softcover. They're falling apart as soon as you get them. For books you really love, buying them new, it's worth it to get the hardcover.

Oh my God I love those books and the music. I agree it's very fun to read hard copies of books. And most of us are willing to pay for quality. I hate buying a book that falls apart before I'm done reading it!

I prefer Oxford Classics. These are accompanied by supplementary reading material related to the subject. The supplementary notes are meticulously tailored by scholars of highest quality. It gives critical insight into the background of the book, its author, the historical and literary context in which it was written and many more.

Yes I love them. If you live in North America, check out value village. I've found 2-3 of them there for like $8 each in pretty good condition.

How about you don't spoil the endings of the books you review? I was looking forward to reading the Mishima book and you just spoiled the ending! That was a very stupid thing to do.

Olá! Tudo bem? Você sabe me dizer? Realmente é feia mas eu sou colecionadora e gostaria de saber sobre.

I absolutely love dickens. He just puts a smile on my face. Everytime I start a new dickens novel, I get this child-like excitement almost.. he’s just soo warm, and writes so entertaining

The first thing I liked about Mr Thornton was at the beginning of the novel when he was in the room when Mr. Hale and Margaret learned that their new house in Milton with the awful wallpaper could not be changed further landlord. But then without telling anyone, Mr. Thornton uses his influence to convince the landlord in Milton to change the awful wallpaper. So, when the Hale family arrives to their new house, they discovered the awful wallpaper is gone. But I don’t think they ever discovered that it was changed because of Mr. Thornton. Mr. Thornton never sought out credit for doing this; he just did this because he was being kind and he overheard how awful the wallpaper was and that the Hale family was pretty disappointed that it was going to have to remain in place.

Have gotten to the point where I prioritising the best translation for aesthetics and it’s kinda sad but hey ho I guess I just go with whatever edition does the best translation for works that need translating. Otherwise I really like the penguin classics and the barnes and noble flexibound classics (they don’t have notes or anything but they’re really pretty)

For me, the best will always be the original US edition with the Mary GrandPré illustrations. It just fits the books perfectly. My runner-up is the UK Deluxe editions. They're almost too beautiful to read.

Yes, they are too expensive on the second hand market, I cannot justify buying them currently. If they were reprinted the new versions might be more affordable.

I have this edition, and it's one of my favorite editions of The Hobbit! 😊 Probably second or third only to the Folio Society edition (which is by far the best in terms of overall quality but also by far the most expensive) as well as the Alan Lee illustrated edition (I prefer the Lee illustrations to the Catlin illustrations mainly because I prefer the realistic-looking art in Lee to the cartoon-like art in Catlin, but both are beautiful in their own way).

Thank you for this beautiful display of different artists' responses to this wonderful book, one of my favourite novels, though I'm no great reader of fiction. My copy is an old-fashioned Penguin, one with the wide orange and white horizontal stripes, circa 1960, no illustrations at all. It's a lovely idea to present such a huge range like this. As I looked it occurred to me what a beautiful exhibition these books would make spread out as in a museum. Some of the types used were very beautiful, too. How many different versions of the novel do you own now? It must be quite a number!
