I think a lot of us like the idea 💡 of making great meals that everyone is impressed and amazed by. But the working life of the chef 👩🍳 does not seem appealing if you look at it as a whole. You definitely mentioned the drawbacks. I guess another option might be to be a private cook 👩🍳. But you may end up having to hire a staff depending on the demand you get.

Being a chef is one of those careers where you MUST have a passion for in order to succeed and be happy. The kitchen is pretty much you new home and you have to love what you do more than how much you get paid.

its the presentation that i like about this... it doesnt look boring when its served, and how much could you sell that for if you had your own restaraunt, maybe depends on the location... im 37 and im starting a chef course next year for three years, by the time i get to 50 il still probably be making carveries and on minimum wage, but then we could make some new recipes and still even then i wont be anywhere near this level on here, i dont know what im saying i think im just fantasizing over becoming a chef and making new recipes for loads of posh women and filling the restaurant out with a few neon lights and lasagne and maccarroni ...

Have been a chef for 8 years. Suggestion from me is not to be a chef. 1. Unhealthy working hours, you gotta work most of the weekends. What about you family? 2. Abusive working environment, chefs in higher position normally can't not afford to treat line cook nicely. Whatever non-sense that is, you can only replay "Oui Chef" and do it. From the mistakes that is made by the front of house to some wanker customers' request. Also the politics in the kitchen. Yes,baby, you gotta suck it up. 3.lowwwwwww pay! Be a responsible adult, make enough money for yourself and your family. Stop using "passion" as an excuse to cover up a person's dumb choice. What about when you need money to buy a house, pay for bills or pay the medical treatment for your families? Passion is fuel to pump you and it will definitely run out. 4. Physical work. Can you still carry 30kg stock pot without doing your back when you are 45yo? If not, what you are gonna do when you are too old to work in a restaurant but still need income? Guy allow me to introduce you, some terms in negotiation and statistic, is "Framing" and "base rate". Every time I heard about people saying why you need to become a chef is all those small frame thinking ( which can only be prove right in very minor cases) and disproportionate base rate, which are not logical and rational. I love cooking so I quite my software engineer to become a chef, now I'm leaving this job. Can we stop sugar coating how fascinate is chefing. The whole industry is full of uneducated people, rude and dumb. A smart person will chose their career and the environment where they in wisely. Everytime I talk like in a kitchen, my partner has to remind me, do not bring the language home. How pathetic that I know it is not good but can't stop it from influencing me. If you really like cooking, go get a good job. Buy some proper equipment and cook for your friends and families at home. At the end, remember that, you are only as good as the last service. Can't be as good for that long? Then quit.

After 22yrs working as a professional cook, I had my kids couldn't always be there for them like I wanted so I changed my career. Even though I loved the insanity of it all, it just wasn't very rewarding and it broke my family because I am a single mom. I wouldn't suggest this. Especially for us females, I had a lady supervisor cooked for 40yrs and never became a chef.

I love feeding people. There is something exhilarating about a perfect service of 400 in 5 hours. We'll if I want people to eat, it has to be good and good for you. Love is the main ingredient always. All dishes get a side of wit and charm. And I once learned the even the exec chef has to answer to someone. A great chef knows great ideas can come from anywhere. The dishwasher had a good idea. Well try it out. But can you recreate it Welcome to the thunderdome
