Spoiler Alert on this comment! But I’m glad they didn’t go in that direction of like an alien origin story where the aliens were the sole focus, which has been done already with others. This one focused on another’s perspective. This movie had me on the edge of the seat, LITERALLY. Lol

Absolutely! As horror franchises go on they seem to fall into the trap of over explaining the backstory of the creatures. I feel like they've already given enough for these monsters for people to speculate and discuss, so it's good they didn't drive it into the ground and instead left a little bit to mystery. - Bern

Honestly, what did you enjoy about it? I thought it was a complete snore. The first third was okay despite being a by-the-numbers, Scorcese style ripoff but it was alright but then it just loses all momentum and the remainder just drags on. A lot of scenes felt like filler that didn't advance the plot (what little plot there was) and the supposed love story had absolutely zero chemistry. Like, yeah, they are together but I couldn't tell you one reason why. In my theatre, some people started talking or playing on their phones while others just got up and left. I was certain I sat there for 3 hours but was shocked to leave and find it was less than two. Obviously taste is subjective but I really don't get what people enjoyed about this movie. It was so boring.

I enjoyed 'In a Violent Nature,' but the pace needed to be tightened up a bit. The movie is 95min long; could have easily trimmed 15-20min off the runtime (5 from final scene and at least 10 out of all the walking scenes). Other than that, it has a lot going for it; the kills, the effects, the killer, the lore and the camera work are all very good. I really hope it gets a sequel.

the movie feels very crammed. while the action is great, and a lot of the movie was pretty good, it needed to slow about the point she tells them to go to bulletfarm instead of gas town. than we could slow down the pace to allow people to catch up and develop an emotional attachment with furiosa(ie furiosa realizing the green place is gone in fury road). We could have her at the citadel learning how to use her robot arm and talking about her past or something I don't know but the audience just doesn't get personal with the main character very well except feeling bad for her cuz her mom n sh$#. the whole time it's rush to the next thing. We wanna sit down and focus on Anya Taylor-joy and let her get some more dialogue ffs

There are times where it does feel like her character progression happens offscreen. I would liked to have seen more of what happened after joining Jack and learning to become a war rig driver and less of her as a kid where she doesn't get to do much. - Bern

I personally disagree. I know enough and I wanna just jump into the action. Anything slower wouldve killed the pace when I already felt it was close to slowing down.

Seeing what happened to her does tell a story, but it felt one dimensional. And her relationship with her mentor felt completely contrived. And the one thing I cant get over is her never mentioning her sister in fury road...and then we're told the one who greeted her was her sister? But she's not the one to ask what happened to their mother? Weird.

While I agree with you guys that Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai and Cosmo Jarvis were exceptional, I think there were so many exceptional performances: Fumi Nikaido as Ochiba, Tadanobu Asano as Yabushige, Takeshi Kurokawa as his nephew Ohno, Yuka Kouri as Kiku, and not the least Moeka Hoshi as the adorable Fuji - she stole every scene she was in. How great isn't it that when they pour this much time and money into getting every minute detail right, the end result turns out to be this outstanding. Five out of five for sure.

Welcome to the Ranting community! Yeah they really tried to juggle too much in this one, and it felt like both the characters and the different plots got shortchanged because of it. Hopefully the next one scales it back and really focuses in on the core characters like Afterlife and the first Ghostbusters. - Bern

I like the word "apathy" that you used. I was using "desensitised". Maybe the use of Say or go symbolises that. A lot of people hate that we don't know what the civil war is, but I like that in changing our focus and making it close to home, we maybe address our apathy. Having said as per my other comment below I didn't like the character Cailee played, could be wrong but it can't be right that this is the way you learn the ropes as a war photographer ie cut your teeth on a major event. But I loved Jesse Plemons - what he did with his short time is the hallmark of a great actor - his "What sort of American are you?" and his image in red shades is iconic

@sebraven

This movie will not be for everyone. It is a slow burn for the first half of the movie , and the reasons why the civil war happened could have been explored more by the journalists . Even a couple of interviews with some people from different states on their journey could have been very interesting as they are journalists . Rather than just focus on the effects of war and the horror. As if you do it that way then there needs to be more coverage of the battles . Personally i liked the movie, the visuals and especially the sound design were amazing , the gun shouts were so loud and scary . Not like how gun fire is portrayed in so many other movies as a spectacle, each shot fired in the movie was disturbing which added to the whole disturbing nature of this movie.

@@thebodaciousrant441 I will agree K Dunst and J Plemons were superb and at times the action and even the drama were really intense but then he ruined it w the de la soul soundtrack and the songs and shite. If he doesn’t antes to make a movie about numb journalists he should’ve made it about that. If he wanted to make a movie about a civil war he should’ve made it about thatS. But this felt half way between both and this neither nor. And the young photog girl was a terrible actor in a even worse character. Garland always holds out so mucb promise to me he’s a great director but honestly I have not been impressed by anything since ex machina. Annihilation was such cliche too and nowhere near as good as the books and the rest is even less to discuss. That’s what kills me maybe when I see peopme that talented not quite getting it right it kills me. ❤ Plemons pretty much stole the show here but Dunst was superb too credit where credit is due…

@@thebodaciousrant441agreed. To call it artistic differences is giving myself too much credit lol. It’s way easier to criticize than to creat. But seeing so much talent not quite hit it’s mark just kills me, no pun intended !! I actually think he played it extremely safe in this movie, making females the lead, using cliche characters, making the government the bad guys etc we’re all very safe choice to me. All PC decisions here. The black female at the end who shot the and white -man-in-power another safe PC choice, I think that’s prbaboy why I didn’t like the movie again so so so many politically correct cliches everywhere like he didn’t want to offense any liberal Hollywood sensitivities whatsoever .

The film needed two more music montages in the first 45 minutes of the movie since the story dragged at the beginning, but it then picked up for the rest of the film. The only acting weak link in the film came from the actor who portrayed Ric Flair who was atrocious in the role. This is during the era of World Class Championship Wrestling.
