Actually Kurosawa was reading Hammett's Red Harvest and The Glass Key. The scene where Mifune's or Eastwood's character is nabbed by a giant wrestler and locked up then escapes by crawling under the floor boards is our of The Glass Key, which was not a detective novel, like most of Hammett's output. I thought each game got worse narratively only because it felt like Nathan was never allowed to grow as a character. Every game starts with him blowing off Elena and then learning that she was all he needed in the end. Watching her get shafted by drake every single game was just exhausting. 4 redeems this slightly by making Nathan's motivations for leaving Elena behind more justifiable but when it's the 4th time he's done this it's still a little exhausting to sit through.

bro you don't have a stand up fight with them.tjhat power scaling is what makes fallout 1 and 2 better than anything bethesda has ever made. there bullshit level scalling system means at no point are you ever threatened in combat. its boring. i'd rather fight 6 radscorps at the beginning of the game or a half dozen supermutants at the end cause that's called challenge, something that bethesda doesn't know anything about.
