Kids talking about games I played back then.... it hurts to feel so ancient. Similar to Morrowind for a lot of folks that got into Skyrim and wanted to try the earlier games, it ain't for the weak.

Uh, what is your perception stat? Because the accuracy issues you're describing suggest it's bottom low. Perception is literally just 'accuracy' and a modifier for your odds of detecting traps. That's it. 5 is average vision and below that you're playing with a nearsighted half blind guy. If you can't hit someone with a weapon you aren't skilled with at like 5 hexes you've got to be like, 2 or 3. Your guy can't shoot because he's basically blind. Get it up to 7 or 8 and you'll be fine, get it up to 5 and 6 and as long as you stick to weapons you have high skill for, also fine. And at 10 you can basically get clean 95%'s for almost everything even at high distance or for tricky VATs shots.

Perception also affects sequence which is really important

1:52 Your max HP at Level 21 with 10 base Strength and 10 base Endurance is 200. The mutant in that clip did, like, 150ish. That's not even THE max HP, let alone 3 times it. Also unless it's a crit armor should cover you fine.
@kalkuttadrop63714 ай бұрын
There's half a dozen bags of RadAway and some RadX IN The Glow to specifically prevent this sort of thing. It's still dangerous, but there's enough kit to keep you alive long enough to waddle out. Also you can use Doctor skill on yourself. You aren't getting softlocked there.

All of the "problems" that you've listed are some of the things that make Fallout 1 an indisputable masterpiece. The game hates you and is stacked against you. There is no tutorial, it doesn't tell you what you're supposed to do, you're supposed to figure everything out on your own, or die.

Wait you're at the LA Vault, literally the last area in the game, and 68 damage is enough to OHKO you even with armor? Either you put nothing into Strength and Endurance or you are horrifically underleveled, you should be in the 120-140 HP range and the armor should soak up like, 80% of that. So I don't even wanna know how low the stat was. By the end game you should be mauling through hordes of Super Mutants without too much trouble, just stimpak after every 4 or 5 kills to top yourself up ya good.
@anqareliouth29214 ай бұрын
I managed to beat the game on hard difficulty rough combat with only 93 max HP. I never died in the LA vault, though my companions suffered worse fates. Still, Dogmeat, Ian and a random follower made it out alive.
@TheDiion_4 ай бұрын
You must’ve been under-levelled because on hardest difficulty if you’re prepared you can make easy work of just about any enemies although they can get lucky at times and get a crit kill on you, Fallout 2 is a lot less forgiving so good luck with that
@danvsclips83264 ай бұрын
2:12 With the best weapons in the game(Hardened Power Armor from the Brotherhood and upgraded at Adytum, Turbo Plasma Rifle upgraded at Adytum for highest single shot VATSable damage, And the Standard Minigun for max burst damage) you will generally two shot Super Mutants, with the occasional one shot at close range and 3 shot at far range. Meanwhile with your armor you'll be taking minimal damage unless they crit. And this was on a playthrough where I did no grinding and my stat blend was pretty medicore, if I was minmaxed for combat with higher strength and endurance to raise HP and higher Agility for an extra shot it would be even easier, consistent one shots so you can kill 2 a turn. And I invested very little into Big Guns and Energy Weapons less than 70%(again with those maxed out you'll have zero issue oneshotting them). I'm gonna assume you either DIDN'T have the perfect stat spread as you claimed(Endurance and Strength's base number controls total HP, Intelligence's base number controls skill points at level up, Perception controls accuracy, Agility controls action points, Luck manages crits) or you were grossly underleveled. Because you are massively overselling the issue. I didn't have issues, you'll only ever get one-shot if you're fighting a guy with a mini-gun at literal point blank range and he gets a crit.(And if you were minmaxxed for HP even that would be survivable). And the companions don't matter, they're generally useless in the second half of the game except MAYBE Tycho if you got him a Sniper or the BBLE. Losing them doesn't matter much.
@anqareliouth29214 ай бұрын
By the time you find the water chip, companions are actually making the game harder for you. I still like them though, both for the fact that they can be used as pack brahmin, and for emotional support lol. Ian has so much character despite being a sprite with so few lines.
@donnaolsen39644 ай бұрын
@@anqareliouth2921 Tycho can be ok if you tell him to stay back, especially if you give him the Red Ryder BB LE easter egg weapon(It's got 1 HP average damage higher than the Sniper Rifle, 24 vs 25, (4% high damage and 5% higher average accuracy) and I THINK always kills on a crit or something). He'll still die at Mariposa or the Cathedral without save scumming or absurd luck, but he's generally get quite a bit further than Ian or Dogmeat or Katja who tend to die at Necropolis or the Boneyard or some of the high end Hub quests or to one of a handful of dangerous random encounters.

@@donnaolsen3964 I've only had a problem with companions dying at the Cathedral and Mariposa. When it came to Mariposa, it was mostly the energy fields

the "going in blind" part is so dumb, games released in that time were always accompanied with a guide, and I'm pretty sure the guide gets given to you for free with your steam purchase nowadays.

Neubtuber what was your character build? For beginners, anything less than 10 agility is sub-par. Low agility is typically the barrier to fun for most people. If you want I can give you a build that got me to beat the game on the hardest difficulty.
@anqareliouth29214 ай бұрын
@@template_stefan420 You can become good in Fallout pretty fast and pretty easily. The game is actually pretty easy even on the hardest difficulties. Just get a good build, learn how to save and go explore. I can help you with both if you want.
