Legally, it is up to the store to include or not include the tax in the quoted price. When the tax was introduced it was about 50/50. Most Canadians indicated they wanted to know how much the article was and how much tax they were paying as a separate item. In some provinces they have a HST meaning Harmonised Tax - a combination of the Federal Sales Tx and the Provincial Sale Tax. In other provinces the two appear separately, meaning the provincial government has not got an agreement with the Federal Government and therefore must collect their tax separate from the Federal Tax. Additionally, because each province has a different sales tax and the federal tax is standard across the country, there is no universal combined tax. Chimo

I lived in fort Nelson from 1978 to 1983 and worked in FNFI . I played soccer and volleyball and organized many tournaments. Population was 5000 with small community. Majority people knew each others. We had just one tv channel in those days. Lots memories in early age . I still have some newspapers cutting of black and white pictures when we won the tournament.fort Nelson news was the only source for updates. FNFI and TACMA mill was the employment source and west coast gas was another industry to support fort Nelson growth. 1983 majority of the population moved out to other parts of Canada . Vancouver was the main destination for people. -40 temperature and mosquitoes are missed . Northern lights were another attraction.There was no traffic light and four ways or two ways traffic signals were visible. Missing old memories!!!

as a canadian , i never turn the water off while in the shower, i turn the water to the correct temp, then step in the shower, after i have finished showering i turn it off and step out. i think this is the norm because we have abundant sources of water and energy, so you dont really save that much by turning the shower on and off.

My wife and I lived on a boat in the Caribbean for several years and sailed with some American friends. It was always a laugh to translate MPH to KPH to Knots on the fly. We avoided KPH whenever possible in that environment as it added a layer of possible confusion. Temperature was another fun place to frolic as we sailed in waters that were 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with air temperatures that we might cite as 27 degrees Centigrade. Nautical mileages are neither metric nor statute measure and everyone had the mental flexibility to handle that from years of using them in their appropriate realms.

Taxes:The Harmonized Sales Tax is a vast improvement over the former ambiguous and 'secret' Federal sales tax. The former Provincial Sales Tax was not 'secret' but varied by province, The end user citizen often did not know how much Federal Sales Tax and particular product would attract, and the Federal government tax agencies had a special room at each of their 'Provincial' HQs which contained many, many books full of tax rates that were specific to any particular. An example of this, I can draw from personal memory from the days before the GST. I would buy quantities of sheet metal and would ask my suppliers for pricing. They would always ask if it was for manufacturing. Since it was for manufacturing into a finished product other than just metal sheet passing across the counter it was taxed at a lower rate. The questioning would continue and the sales person would be the person deciding which tax rate you would be paying. Those who did not know this usually paid anywhere from 6 to 8 percent more even if they were manufacturing products from the sheet metal. Provincial sales tax was applied 'on top' creating a tax on a tax. While the HST is an improvement over the GST/PST of yesteryear, the HST is far from great. Any consumer who is told by an auto parts aftermarket supplier that they only supply rebuilt parts for certain applications is really saying that they make more money due to the government HST policy of refusing to refund taxes charged on rebuildable cores. If you return your old brake caliper body to the vendor of the rebuilt part, they will not refund the taxes already charged that were pending against the core which you might or might not get around to returning for refund. This is why those in the know buy these parts online and buy NEW parts. New can be had for as little as one quarter of the cost of rebuilt parts from retail suppliers. And the core goes to the scrappers where it belongs. The Canadian government does not really want to make this kind of knowledge generally available and , in this more recent scam have again suborned financial middle men to do their dirty work for them.

You will get used to switching from metrics to imperial : get a measuring cup that has both metric and imperial on it. Duvet and shower equipment and recycling machines like you described in Germany have been available in Quebec for decades. You seem to be living in a remote area where people live like 60 years ago. Because taxes vary in North American states and provinces, if taxes were added to the current price, we wouldn’t know what the real price is. It is strange that you have to pay in cash, again this practice is not accepted in Quebec, you have to buy tickets or a pass at a distributing machine. I always pay everything with my credit card because it’s convenient to keep track of my spending.

When I first visited Europe, decades ago, it seemed that things like bathrooms, street infrastructure, household appliances, and shops were old fashioned and less advanced than I was used to in Canada. Now the situation is reversed. Europe has gone through a period of colossal economic and technological innovation. It's we Canadians who are behind the times in many of these things. Hopefully, we will catch up.

@jenniferh72966 ай бұрын
The cups in recipes are 250 ml. We have special cups called measuring cups. There are 2 kinds, dry measures for measuring flour and sugar and other dry ingredients, and the glass ones with a handle for wet ingredients. I was laughing when you were talking about how to use the shower. I had a similar experience trying to figure out a toilet in England. You often asked what the advantage is to these things but I think that is where your confusion is. We probably just don’t ow any better. I was interested to see what your system is for showers in Germany. We probably just don’t know any better and I find a lot of products here are not well thought put in terms of their design. I love a product with great design myself but perhaps due to smaller population in Canada so perhaps less competition between producers and a lot of space and resources compared to European countries, the designs in North America are rather lazy, ugly and inefficient. Your German products and culture are known to us in Canada as being thoughtful about quality, design, efficiency, and it shows when you are confused about what advantages our products have. Well they probably have some but overall I would say that is just not the mindset here, which I personally find frustrating. We have the systems we know and can afford as well I guess. That is all I can really say. Also with the tax, I think Canadians mostly know what is taxable and not so we do know what we will pay, but for anyone travelling from elsewhere it is understandably very confusing. Groceries are not taxable but single portions are. Most other things are taxable but that tax amount will depend what province you live in.

Your appartement is expensive. My parents had an appartment in St joseph. 500 euro per month and has germans, as I live in Germany and my parents are open to europeans. But they are too old to do it now. Where did you go to your groceries? Go to the market. The vegetables and fruits are less expensive than in Germany, and I can see that each time I am coming back. You go to Saint Joesph market.... Where did you go? In vincendo there are no big supermarkets. Go to Leclerc in St Joseph. I guess you did your groceries in a kiosk. Kiosk or little markets are expensive just as in Germany. Wines are cheaper than in Germany for a better quality price ratio and the beer pack cost the same as in Rewe You should have talk to locals.... From someone who is from Saint Jospeh.... Bodycare is expensive or european goods. But locals goods are not that expensive, that's not true You have Tuna fish for less than 20 euro/kilo. It is more than 50 euro/kilo in Germany. So eat local eat cheaper

Unfortunately the sales taxes are added after in both Canada and the U.S. It’s a real pain in the neck. Most of us would much rather have it pre added and the pay the sticker price.
@cheryla74809 ай бұрын
In Canadian homes we may use duvets or blankets or both we also use duvet covers. When it’s your own family you are not washing blankets very often as you have a sheet between you and the blanket. I’m sure hotels, motels etc. would be cleaning those blankets between clients, either washing or dry cleaning.

All shower systems here can be quite different. Mine looks nothing like the one you showed in the video. My system is you turn on the hot and cold water and regulate it to the temperature you want ( the water is coming out of the faucet. . Then when ready you pull a little plunger on the top of the faucet, this switches the water flow from the faucet to the shower head, and as you have already regulated the temperature you don’t get any sudden cold or hot shocks. When finished you just push the plunger back down which switches the water back to the faucet and you just turn the water off at the taps

Oh dear we can be very confusing regarding the Metric and the old Imperial system. Hopefully it will get better as ch are taught the metric system at school. Canada did not start using the metric system until the 1970’s. Speaking for myself I was already in my thirties. For many of us older Canadians we ended up using a bit of each. For example for the weather I relate more to Celsius, but for distances I think in miles, and feet and inches. For body weight I use ponds and ounces, but am also comfortable ordering deli foods in grams.

The reason the shower knobs are like that in Canada is because those types of knobs are way cheaper than other types of knobs. Hotels started using those because they are a cheaper price and since hotels have sometimes hundreds of those installed in a building they wanted to save money. In the United States we also have those knobs which will create a moment of panic by not knowing how cold or hot the water will come out. So, I understand your frustration.
