In 2 years+ those lights are going to sag unless you string them on aircraft wire. Electrical wiring will stretch because it is vulnerable to heat and stress from the pull.

I take down the lights every fall. They’ve been up for a few years and no sag :)

That is an option. However, most people leave the lights hanging year round like I do. No way I am climbing up a 14’ pergola and taking lights down every year. More power to you.

What’s your suggestion for exterior wood like for the deck. Would oil-based is better compared to water-based? Please share your thought. Thank you.

any tips on how to reduce how loud it slams when it closes? the manual says to remove the black plastic spacer on the hinge, but David says it's really important and I believe him lol

Hey! I would suggest trying some rubber cabinet door bumpers. Not sure it will remove all the noise, but worth a try.

Lights are cool on your light posts. Good job doing it yourself. But a few questions. Why deal with planters in the first place? Just dig holes and put the suckers in the ground. I would think it be easier. Also if your wood is treated you won’t need to make a tunnel for drainage. JS. But enjoy your lights!!!

Any idea for food safe sealer that would prevent damage without changing the raw concrete look? I've tried woodworking polyurethane, but that's too glossy. But without sealer you will never be able to remove stains caused by spills of oil, wine, coffee or candle wax. It will just soak in the mortar without any chance to be removed without recoating the thing with fresh mortar. Therefore using some kind of sealer would make lots of sense...

That is very nice. A handheld sander is not expensive. I got mine on sale at Walmart for 10.00. Even the ones not on sale are not much more than 20.00. This tool saves time but more importantly gives you those smooth edges, etc that are very difficult to get with hand sanding.

So simple and gorgeous! Can't wait to make them. One question: Is there some outdoor material that could work? I'd love to place one on my covered porch, but (except for vinyl) am unsure of what to use that has this beautiful wood finish. Open to suggestions....
@Ety_Vaknin
@Ety_Vaknin Жыл бұрын
Hi Zipporah! I wouldn’t suggest using this material outside (especially if you live in a rainy/snowy area) - I think the rain would definitely ruin it. Vinyl could work but you would have to find a flexible one and make sure you have the right adhesive. I feel like rattan might be good for outdoors but have not tried it so I don’t know how easy it is to work with. If you do find something for outdoors, would love to know how you did it!

@@Ety_Vaknin Thank you, I was thinking vinyl too and although it may also require additional (no show sturdy) fasteners look forward to the main benefit of vinyl: keeping it clean. Thanx again!
