The Bendix item is a pen-style dosimeter and is not an atropine injector. Dosimeters are used to record a person’s accumulated radiation dose in a radiologically contaminated environment and would usually be clipped onto the person’s clothing. Your style of dosimeter is reusable and can be recharged after use by using a dosimeter charger. You can read the dosage on your dosimeter by looking through the lens on the end nearest the pocket clip and pointing it at a light source. You should see a hairline along a scale which would indicate the dose of radiation the wearer was exposed to. The line may not be at zero or may not be visible at all as they tend to drift overtime. Bendix was an American aviation company, but they also made countless other products which included radiation detection equipment like your dosimeter. Many different organizations and countries utilized their radiation detection products including the US Office of Civil Defense.

@davidbaker5918 Ah that certainly makes quite a bit more sense than an atropine injector. Thank you for the correction, I am not sure why I was told it was an Atropine injector

Why would you make a video about conservation when you "don't care enough" because the masks are "already falling apart." The whole point of conservation is to slow down degradation so these historical items can be preserved into the future. Ripping the rubber out with an old T-shirt seems counterproductive to that end, no? Why not just wait until you have the proper materials, rather than cause damage.
@baronsgasmasks27 күн бұрын
@psychogopher7894 The "don't care enough" was more or less a joke. I care quite a lot about preserving these masks, this is just an example where I have not had the time to switch out the shirt with packing paper, I did not damage the mask by pulling the shirt out and more than it already was. The rubber and fabric on this mask are extremely pliable yet very gummy so it allows slightly less care, though I do usually treat these with the same care as any other World War 1 Era mask I happen to own. I am sorry if I came off as dismissive to the preservation of these masks, this video is meant to be informative.

That’s just another type of postwar industrial filter. It’s a mismatched kit. Sometimes you see masks like this where a collector some time ago saw that the canisters are almost identical and needed one for a mask that didn’t have one. It’s definitely not an industrialized CE. That harness is normal.
