This was a solid 1st episode. Great voice acting/audio editing; every1 sounded like their race did from the games. The animation could be better, but it has a charm to it similar to the start of Red Vs Blue. I noticed some weird warping around the Human debt collector's chest, u might want to check the paint weights to see which joint is inadvertently affecting it.

The Asari sucked and so did most of the other male VAs. The Quarian was really spot on though and is clearly well trained. You also need better shadows on your actors. They look unreal. Like they're floating above the ground. Reminds me of vanilla Fallout New Vegas. Not going to mention either the horrible audio balancing and the insane facial animations on the humans. The writing and pacing is good however. You definitely build up a believable worlds without overt exposition or other writing flaws. It certainly feels like a section of the Mass Effect universe with how the characters and conflicts are portrayed. It's overall a good job but the amount of polish it needs is huge. This is like a massive, perfect diamond covered in a huge pile of dog shit.

Valid thoughts, thank you, I've been doubling-down efforts on these areas. Can you expand on the voicework? Some of my cast are relatively new, but they all have tremendous potential and deserve more for doing this gratis. There's also the chance that I just suck at giving proper direction-no way to know/fix with a simple "sucks".
@SEXUAL-ABUSER3 күн бұрын
@@jonathansud Alright. The last time I did voice acting and stage acting was in 2016 but I’ll try to pull from that and give a little bit of advice here. In terms of the voicework, the Asari, Evel at 11:34 had a very difficult time expressing inflections and emotions in what she was saying. Almost as if she was a female moist critikal. If you want an example of what one would expect, you can just look at the Asari that shows on the TV for a brief moment. Asari generally don’t really have many inflections besides being a little bit autistic so you don’t really need to lean into anything heavily like what you need to do with Hanar or Elcor, for example. Another example would be the Turian at the 6:46. He sounds rather amateurish. Which, I suppose you could say the same for most of the rest of the cast. But an example here would be the fact that he over emphasises his inflections at the end of his words. He sounds like he’s over acting here and it comes off rather crude. Instead of making him sound like he’s genuinely depressed and saddened by the influx of refugees, make him sound annoyed, as that would make more sense within the context of this scene (unless you intend to expand on the history of this particular character in the future). He also breathes out when he ends his sentence at the 7:29 mark and it makes it sound, again, like an amateurish job. He doesn’t portray the right emotion here, he says to the watcher ‘this guy is depressed about refugees’ which doesn’t fit within the given context. It should be ‘this guy is annoyed by refugees being incompetent’. It doesn’t help either that you’re portraying this as being a fully grown man when the voice that comes out of his mouth is rather high pitched. It doesn’t fit with the deep bassy voices known coming from Turians in this universe. But that isn’t really a voice acting problem, but rather a not so right person for the job problem. Another example of the previous problem would be the Volus that appears at 8:50. This guy also sounds extremely amateurish, but here it’s a lot worse. Not only does he do the “breathy sneaky guy” novice voice actor bit, but he also heavily over emphasises every single inflection and makes it sound again, unnatural and very amateurish. This is the type of voice acting you would expect from someone that just started, or hasn’t done any training at all. At 13:55, this entire scene was rather confusing. There’s multiple issues here, and some of it actually has to do with the writing. Let’s start there. When Lena says “Managed to come through for you”, it gives the notion that she’s reporting to a racketeer as we have the context of the Blue Suns doing racketeering at the start of the video. When Evan says “Sorry, eh, probably… Seein’ things” it comes off as too self-aware for a schizophrenic and doesn’t sound particularly believable. When you imagine a homeless veteran “seeing things”, you don’t imagine him actually saying that he’s probably seeing things. You imagine someone who’s broken, depressed and prone to psychosis. Not someone that switches to a normal human being as soon as they pull themself from their distorted reality. In that vein, let’s now talk about the voice acting from Evan here since, as usual, Lena is doing a perfect job. When Evan says his psychotic lines, it actually sounds pretty well done but when he comes out of his psychosis, he sounds too normal. Too much like an approachable person. Even if this is in the realm of reality for an actual psychotic, it falls into unbelievability when he doesn’t retain even a shred of his psychosis as that’s not what people expect from someone like that normally. So, again, unless you want to use this character again in the future, he’ll need to fall more into the stereotype to retain a sense of believability. Make him retain a shred of that spacey, disconnected floaty voice that he was portraying earlier, but not to a point where it’s now overdone. Just enough, that it hints to it still lingering in his head instead of the extremely casual and alert “Yeah. Yeah, you too.” In terms of the two Blue Suns employees, I don’t really have many complaints here besides maybe Reynolds not really conveying a sociopath as well as he could have when he threatens Lena to “pop a single seal… Or better yet, how about two”. It comes off as a bit too cheery, but otherwise, he does a pretty good job. Anything else I had an issue with, such as the chef at 4:28 or the female politician at 4:45 onwards would have just been fixed with some better sound balancing and distancing. The chef would sound a lot better if he sounded like he was a lot farther away from Lena when he shat on her, and the female politician needs to stop eating her mic. IDK where you got her but she sounds like she’s doing ASMR which isn’t what you’re trying to portray here obviously. Hope this helps.

There's definitely things to consider with this type of analysis-I appreciate your time with writing all this up, as well as the criticisms in the original comment. I've been aggregating all received feedback, and I think one of the common sentiments is more directional oversight. Looking forward to your thoughts on the next episode👌

@@jonathansud Like I said, I think this has massive potential. It just needs a lot of polish. You earned a subscriber from me with notifications on on account of you making authentic-feeling Mass Effect content (especially since it's Quarian themed) so I'll be eager to see your progress. As far as a first episode goes, this by far blows a lot of things out of the water. RvB's first episode was terrible and aged poorly, for example. Maybe once you finish this series you could make a Tali x Shepard sequel for after the events of ME3!

Yes, they are called the Blue Suns, but why is that? In a piece of fan fiction I like, it was said that early in his career, Zaeed Massani fought in the British component of some European Union forces deployed to South Africa. The South African government had tried to rebuild the economy by transforming South Africa into a magnet for biotech companies, but a large war began when those companies fought among themselves. Later, Massani fought alongside the Brazilian Vido Santiago as a mercenary alongside a guerrilla organization in Sudan. He and Santiago then founded the Blue Suns. The organization was named after the blue star in the Rigel system, because Santiago wanted to "make it big" and have as much money as the mining moguls of that system. [The fiction actually states that the two men were thinking of Zeta Reticuli, but that’s not right because the latter star isn’t blue at all]. By the way, "Zaeed Massani" must only be a nom de guerre -- because if you write it in Arabic (زيد ميزاني), it renders as "increased budget." However, Zaeed is a perfectly reasonable name if taken by itself because it means "increase," as in a child who brings or represents good fortune from God. The mercenary likely chose "Zaeed Massani" as his alias because he primarily believes he is in it for the money -- even though also for the exhilarating feeling of power and anger. “Zaeed Massani” also reminds me of the character Günter Hermann from the original Deus Ex game. Günter means "the man of the army at war," and Hermann means "the man subordinate to the feudal master." Günter was a touchy, unsubtle man who liked power and exercising it. He saw volunteering for biomechatronic augmentation not only as a way to gain more power but as embarking on a path of radical bodily sacrifice for which he felt he should always be greatly honored, never overlooked. He had no problem with having killed more than nine hundred opponents. But then Günter felt humiliated and in pain, as it seemed certain to him that he was being eclipsed and marginalized because of Denton, who was seen as the new definition of cutting-edge force and tactical power. He felt that he was going to be thrown on the junk pile. I also see Günter’s hidden feeling of love for Anna Navarre, and I see Navarre as a French Jew who went to Israel to join the IDF and get augmentations and become strong -- she excelled in this and became a full Colonel in the ground forces. So we actually have here a relationship (even if unstated) between a German person and a Jewish woman who made aliyah, a relationship that is no small matter. And what did Denton do? Canonically, Denton had to kill Navarre in order to escape. We know that Günter was apoplectic with rage and he even cried when Navarre was killed -- because although he took care that nobody saw him crying, someone heard him.

3:09 In English, people who are to be pressured to make payments are often called deadbeats, or if they hide themselves, they are called ghosts. However, this does not apply when using the slang of credit card companies. In that case, deadbeat is the spiteful and ironic term for someone who pays bills *on time.* People who use one credit card to pay off another and continue the cycle are the ones credit card companies tend to go after, sometimes with company employees expressing relish or enjoyment. Those people tend to call their targets who have not paid "revolvers." It is a metaphor for how those who have trouble paying tend to use more cards as if reloading the chambers, in the unsuccessful attempt to break the cycle.

This was great, I've always wanted to see more fan-series like this set in the Mass Effect universe. The setting has so much potential for more small-scale stories, but we only have a handful of things outside of the games exploring it. Glad to see a Quarian protagonist as the focal point as well. I already feel for Lena and think her voice actress did a strong job. The Elcor interactions were fun, and I like that the Blue Suns have distinct personalities between them. Hope that this series continues, I'd like to see where it goes.
